As a non-makeup wearer pre-wedding, I went this route. Met with a MAC makeup artist who showed me a very natural look that I knew I wanted but didn’t know how to attain. Practiced putting it on during all weekends and even going to work (it was a very light amount of makeup so it was definitely fine for work). Everything worked out great on the big day. Don’t have any detailed photos or anything of my makeup, but I’d trust the MAC folks for sure. There were also some very helpful tips and product reviews on YouTube, eg how to apply eye shadow etc. The key is practice practice practice! Didn’t have time to practice with my hair and that was a semi-frizz disaster come wedding time!

I did. I was less than thrilled with my makeup trial.

“Pro” makeup consultation:

What I did myself with my own product:

There is no way I’m paying someone to do something I can do better lol.

@Earlybride: no, Ulta. I WISH we had a MAC counter here. The girl from Ulta seemed to struggle with everything…

@ScarletBegonia:The consult was free! I just randomly stumbled into the store while my now mother-in-law had to use the restroom at the mall. I’d gotten some of their eye shadow from their web site and inquired about applying it. And it kinda went from there. I’ll be totally honest in saying there was no strong pressure from them to buy things I didn’t need.  In fact, the consultant told me ways of making my buck go further.  I did end up buying a ton of products (well, a “ton” for me): a couple brushes for eye shadow application, brush cleaner, their Pro Longwear Lip Colour (super duper worth it! stayed on the whole wedding day despite kissing and cake and didn’t dry my lips out like some other lip stains!), a stick of eyebrow pencil, and a couple more neutral shades of eye shadow that I didn’t know to get by myself through their site. It was good to see it put together with the actual products I’d be using. No more wasting time/money going to random makeup counters in dept stores. I can’t tell you how much time/money I wasted doing that til I got to MAC! And if you don’t feel comfortable doing your own makeup after your consultation, you can book an appointment with the consultant on your wedding day so she can put the exact same look together for you.  I didn’t need that option in the end, but it was good know that I had a “Plan B” in case I couldn’t pull it off comfortably.  Still have my consultant’s card around here somewhere.  Haha!

*Edit:  Also forgot to mention that while it may seem like a lot of money spent on all the product, you own the product when all is said and done.  I don’t think I spent more than what a typical makeup trial costs, and I have a ton of product that I continue to use on a regular basis that looks like it’s going to last me several more months if not a whole year!

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: ooooh, good call on the DIY! You look fantastic!

I’m not exactly a makeup noob, but I didn’t really use foundation often. I went to Sephora for a consultation, and they set me up with Makeup Forever products. I really loved everything but the lipstick. It was just too bright for me.

I did. I went to sephora and they helped me choose foundation, eyeliner, lipcolor and mascara and showed me the best way to apply it and then on the wedding day I put it on myself

I never went to a consultant. Instead I went out on youtube and found a good makeup tutorial (http://www.makeupbytiffanyd). I bought the products she used in the tutorial and will be doing my own makeup the day of the wedding.
