We hwent on a trip to PEI that summer (woot woot Green Gables!) and everyone thought it would happen then (including me). So, three months later when he went down on one knee by the chicken coop at my parents’ ranch, I was gobsmacked.

I totally knew the morning of. I asked myself what to wear to get engaged and my hair and makeup got extra attention. When the normal day was nearly over and I had put my sweats on. . . that’s when he proposed and I was totally surprised!

I thought that I knew! We were having all of our friends over for a new year’s party.  I obsessed about everything being perfect, down to my outfit and hair, thinking that it was going to be "The Night."

By the time 11 rolled around, FH had spent most of the night haging with the guys and playing XBox.  I was disappointed, but tried to roll with it.  I could not believe my intuition was so off, and that I had gone through the whole holiday season (starting with our 4 year anniversary in November) without him proposing.

With about 10 minutes left before midnight, FH called me upstairs to help him with something. When I got to our room, he was down on one knee! I was truly surprised because I had already told myself "it’s not going to happen tonight."

Bellenga, I hope you’re right about your feeling this time!

it was our 10 yr anniversary and i knew he already bought a ring so i thought hmm, i bet he will. we went out to dinner, desert..still no proposal….. got home, hung out watching t.v…still no proposal. i eventually got out of my cute "engagement" outfit, washed my face and got into PJs thinking, well i guess no proposal..then right before we went to bed he proposed and i was actually surprised which was nice!

I *thought* I knew it was coming. However Fiance did everything he could to throw me off. He did a lot of talking about how we might have to rethink our original ideas about dates if we wanted to be engaged a year before the wedding because he wouldn’t have the money to get me a nice ring yet, blah blah blah. He even had my mom in on it!

We bought champagne at the grocery store — which I thought was weird because we’re usually beer people. I snuck away and called my mom and she totally lied and told me not to get my hopes up because he hadn’t called to ask permission yet and that’s something he said he was definitely going to do.

When we got home he dragged his feet. Played on the computer, took a shower, etc. I totally thought I was wrong about him asking. I figured that he would want to do it ASAP. Well, I suppose his plan worked because when he did actually ask me that night it ended up being a surprise since he had me so convinced I was wrong. :o)

i actually dreamt the night before that he fake proposed with a fake ring, but then said, don’t worry i will propose for real soon. (i’ve NEVER had a dream like that before.) that morning he proposed. it was really crazy!!!

I basically knew.  We went to a party over the weekend and he kept commenting on other women’s engagement rings and also commented on my own jewelry.  The night before, when I went to bed, he stayed up for a few minutes later and I heard him rummaging around in the study.  (turns out that’s where the ring was hidden!)

The next night when I got home from work he asked if I wanted to go out and grab dinner.  I definitely had the thoughts of "I think we are getting engaged tonight" but tried to put them out of my head.  When we started walking through a park on the way to dinner, he started walking really slow, and I knew that he was about to pop the quesiton!

I was totally surprised! I should have known-he called off work that day. Said he wanted to spend the day with me because I was working the following weekend (I was working retail then). But half the day went by before he did it!

I definitely knew! He was totally transparent. He even called me to ask for my parents phone number (what, he couldn’t steal it off my phone himself?)! And then a half hour later he called to ask me to a fancy dinner that coming Friday. I knew he was going to do it then and I was right! But I am not big on surprises so this was great for me. I found it utterly charming.

Since he lives in Florida and I live in Texas, we only had a limited number of weekends during which he could propose…he came down for Valentine’s Day weekend, and while I didn’t know the precise day, I knew it would be before the weekend was over. 🙂 It was still a slight surprise when he did it, though!

He asked me out of the blue on Christmas night, after we’d gotten home from spending the day with his family.  It was the first time we’d actually been able to spend Christmas day together.  I had such a great time with his family, even though I thought I’d be sad to be away from mine, and I couldn’t stop talking about how happy I was.  That was when he asked me.  He said it was unplanned; it just felt like the right time.

Next up is the ring. He told me he wanted to wait until we’d found an apartment (we’re moving in together in Sept.) — well, we signed a lease last week. AND we spent far less on it than we thought we would, so as he said, he’s "got all this extra money I was expecting to spend…what should I do with it?"  I told him I didn’t really need or want a ring, but he insists…so I hope he doesn’t spend a crazy amount of money on it. It seems like such a waste to me…but it’ll be pretty!

I wish!  I had no idea it was coming.  I was still in school, finishing up my last year of college.  I knew my fiance was the one since we first started dating 3.5 years ago, but I didn’t think he would pop the question until after graduation.  I knew how he would propose to me (recreation of our first date), but he still caught me by surprise!  The proposal part is still a little fuzzy in my mind.  I remember freaking out and asking whether or not this was a joke (there was an led light shining on the ring inside the box).  He was happy that I didn’t see it coming and that he could actually surprise me.  I wish I had a slight clue so that I could have picked a better outfit for that day.

I honestly had NO CLUE! LOL At least not from the start. Once we sat down in the sand and watched the sunset I was hoping but still didn’t know! I’m glad it was a surprise because that made it 100x more special! 😀

My fiance likes thinking that he surprised me, but we were on a special day together, and I could just *feel* something. I had no clue in the few days before, but that day… I could feel it. 🙂
