Not a wedding dress but did just get my flower girl dresses in from China yesterday.  They were exactly as promised…. except they REEKED of fish.  I mean, it stunk up my living room and the dresses had to be aired out outside for 6 hours.  It was foul.  I was not prepared for that! But I was happily surprised that the dresses were what they were supposed to be ๐Ÿ™‚

eliii90 :  I wouldn’t risk it. There are many beautiful options at many price points sold by sites with great reputations.

If you’re considering a dress from China, you should read the Replica Dress thread – that board is full of stories (both good and bad) and the Bees on there can give you advice as to what shop would be best for what sort of dress you would like made.

But it’s important to understand that a replica dress is a major gamble! It might turn out well, but it might not. If you’re going to do it I strongly reccomend you have A) enough budget to buy a second dress if the first one doesn’t work out and B) enough time to purchase a second dress. If it’s 90 days to your wedding, don’t count on the replica dress being done correctly.

I did a replica dress. I think mine turned out relatively well, but it wasn’t what I originally pictured. It took me months to get over the fact that the dress I pictured in myhead didn’t match the dress that I got. I did indeed wear it! (And it was well made) But it wasn’t *idential* to the designer. And that was a difficult expectation to let go of.

You definately need to proceed with caution. And you definately need to have a viable Plan B if it doesn’t work.

Here was my inspiration dress:

Definitely check the replica thread. I’m extremely pleased with my dress but experiences vary. Expecting 100% similarity is unrealistic but its quite possible to have a positive experience.  There are nice dresses in stores but none would have come close to what I was looking for nor did I care for most of them or feel they were worth the cost. Good luck!

I got mine from a china shop, mine isn’t a replica of a dress it was the product of my own wants and desires really. Please look at the replica threads as they will be able to point you in the right direction as to which shops to try and which to avoid. Good luck!
