make sure you perfect your frosting recipe a few weeks ahead of time, I would hate for your beautiful cupcakes to be melted the day of your wedding,

I think you totally can do your own cupcakes, get some aunts and grandmothers together and do them ahead of time… just as a side note how many are you planning on making? ’10 batches’ could be 100 or could be 240 cupcakes depending on your recipe… thats a lot of frosting time.

I’m going to! My mom is helping me do cupcakes and a small 1 tier cake for Fiance an myself. I only have 20 people to make them for though, so that’s 1 batch 🙂 But even if we were having more, I’d make them myself. I love to bake and decorate cupcakes. I did some super simple ones for a wedding shower for a friend. you can easily find little things to make them look “fancy”.

Yes, I always take pictures of the cupcakes I make 😛

I dont think I would take on that stress myself. That price seems really high we went to a wedding that paid 70$ for 6 dozen which I know is crazy low but there must be a happy middle.

My BFF is getting married this weekend and she made her cupcakes a couple of weeks ago and froze them. On Friday us girls are going to decorate them so they are ready to go for Saturday.

I’ll let you know how it turns out, but I think it is a great idea! And as long as you have a few people to help frost I don’t see the problem.

You definitely have enough time to experiment. I was thinking about doing this myself, but we’re doing the flowers the day before, and that’s a bigger cost savings than the dessert.

That’s a crazy price for cupcakes- $3-something per? A grocery store nearby sells them for under $1, so we may go that route.

I’m doing cupcakes for my wedding. I’m an avid baker. I usually bake 3-4 dozen at a time. Make my own icing. Bake from scratch, vegan cupcakes. Different flavors. Cupcake snob you might say.

I’m having someone do cupcakes for my wedding. I have 100 people coming (maybe) and I have 13 dozen cupcakes. 9 different flavors (when you RSVP’d you’d pick a cupcake). Mine was $273. Plus $30 for the stand rental. $20 for the set up and pick up, which I don’t mind, because then I don’t have to worry about getting it back to her, and I paid $20 for a 6″ cake. I’m also getting 30 boxes, at .30 each for extras.

I will be making 120 cupcakes for my wedding. Same I dea as you… baking and freezing one week ahead and icing them the night before. I am a cupcake fiend and made them for my proposal and the frosting still looked good a few days later so I am not worried.

You can do it! $700 is WAY too much.

I have seen some DIY cupcakes that were not very pretty, but I think that if you put more effort and time into them, they can look great (like the beautiful one iheartsquishy posted). I’d definitely pipe the frosting (rather than just smearing it on with a spatula, like the ones I saw before – not pretty!) and add some pretty sprinkles or a ribbon around the paper to make them look festive. Sounds like a fun bridesmaid evening to me!

Okay, can someone give me a cupcake please? LoL.. I feel the best way to find out if it will taste good is to bake it in advance and see if it is still how you like it after freezing. Will be good to see who you can rope in to help you with the baking/ frosting and discuss with them if it is do-able and if so, how can they help. Good luck!
