I have kind of a stupid question 🙂

I’ve never had an iPhone and I think I’ve decided to purchase the 4S.

I have Sprint, but when I go to purchase it online (either through Sprint’s website, or through Apple) it increases the price to some crazy $749.00 once I enter my plan information.

If I just go to the Apple store, can’t I buy it there for the regular $199 or whatever it is? Will it be compatible with Sprint if I get it there?

Anybody with insight please let me know – I’m really new to this!

@MrsMaine:  In order to get the iPhone for $199 you have to renew your contract to 2 years.  (It’s worth it in my limited opinion to go with Sprint)  Are you due for a new contract? If you purchased through the Apple store, you’re going to pay the $749 retail price.  Sprint and all carriers subsize the cost some by making you go through a contract.

I want one soooo bad.  But I’m on a family plan with sprint and it would require switching the whole family over to a data plan *grumble* so no Iphone for me.

@bakerella: I also got it, 32gb, in white. And I love it. And my SO got he black version. And we live in Canada too! So much in common 🙂

@beekiss: Thank you – now I understand! I am already in the middle of a contract with Sprint, and I’m just looking to upgrade my current Android (although it is NOT my upgrade time) so I’m guessing that’s why I’m getting the $749 price, right? It must have to be a new contract.

@MrsMaine:  I’d go into a sprint store and see what they can do. I’m not sure if they’d let you out of a contract by entering a new one for free or making you pay the break in “contract.”  I thought though that Sprint customers qualify for a new phone up to $150 every year (still a disparity in the total price).

@bakerella:  The black screen on the white surface was a huge reason why I didn’t choose white.  Another reason was the additional sensor above the front facing camera that kind of threw the balance of the phone off for me.  My sister however decided on the white and loves it.  But I could see how being used to a certain color would make it more difficult to transition to a different color.  Just think, you can see fewer smudges/scratches in white versus black.

As for the black vs. white issue, if you get a case, it won’t matter much anyway.  I ordered an otterbox defender case, which FH has- super protective!

Oh. My. God. I thought that I was going to be okay with not getting it (I was completely obsessed right before I got my 3G and I currently have the 4). I should not have entered this thread!!! We’re due for an upgrade and my screen has a teeny tiny crack. Now I have to go home and convince DH!

This would explain the crazy line outside the apple store at the mall yesterday…
