Mine was in a parking lot after dinner on the way to the car.  He had picked up the ring that afternoon and couldn’t hold onto it anymore.  Laughing  I was bummed at first that he hadn’t really thought through a proposal, but I am over it now.  I can’t wait to be his wife.

Mine was in front of an ihop… lol. He didn’t have a ring yet, but he wanted to let me pick it out. He told me “I want you to be my wife because you’re already my life and its time to do the deed” I was like uhhh okay? was that actually a proposal?

Then he said will you marry me and I said yes… it is a funny story to tell though!

i think spontaneous proposals are the best kind. to me it says that the guy wanted to make sure that he will be with you forever and he just couldn’t wait a single second longer to make you his.  my ideal proposal has always been just a spontaneous “will you marry me” in the middle of some random, ordinary moment like cuddling in bed on sunday morning or washing dishes together.

My Fiance proposed in bed.  We were in our PJ’s about to watch ‘the office’ and then head to sleep.  He started getting really mushy and lovey dovey and then popped the question–he literally had the ring under the covers.  I thought it was a joke, so the first words that came out of my mouth were “Are you freaking kidding me”! hehe–talk about being so NOT classy.

He had got the ring that day, it was a Wednesday, and was going to plan a dinner and the proposal that Friday.  He couldn’t wait!  At first I was so excited that I didn’t realize that he didn’t even get down on his knee! No rose petals, no champagne,,nada! But its OK, I love him and I couldn’t ask for a better man, even if the proposal wasn’t as chessy or as ‘classy’ as I’d imagined it to be.

Mine was definitely less than classy also.   We were out shopping for shoes on a Saturday, and after a few hours and several stores, we decided to take a break from the shoe search.  We went into the jewelry store to take a look around.

We’d been to a few other jewelry stores “just looking”, and weren’t really planning to buy anything on this day either.  However, there was this awesome ring that I really loved…..until we saw that you had to put a boulder of a diamond in the center for it to look good….  So, we kept looking…..

The salesman brought out a ring that I really liked, but it was too large as well.  However, he said he had the same ring in a smaller size in the vault.  So, they brought it out & it was perfect!  We bought it, and I figured he’d wait for another appropriate moment to give it to me.  But, when we got it the car & he pulled the box back out of the bag & said “I just want to spend the rest of my life with you” to which I replied “you’re giving me this now?”  LOL!  He later told me that he’d kill me if I told anyone he proposed in the car in the parking lot in front of the jewelry store, lol!

We were CLEANING!

We spend all Sunday morning cleaning so when we were done I was hanging on the couch on my computer while he showered.

He came down and says “Oh can you do something else for me?”

“What’s that?” I asked (thinking he’s going to ask me to dust something)

“Can you plan our wedding?”

I thought it was totally adorable and unexpected so it makes me smile but def not chocolates and fireworks (althought that probably would be too sappy for me). After he asked I said yes, thought for a moment, decided to call my parents and then made us pizza for lunch.

Ours was not fancy not was it dreamy.  We were at a salsa lesson and we were both half crocked, and we were talking to the dance instructor at a table, he started whispering in her ear, and she says loudly “I am not asking her that!”  I was very confused, then she asked me to marry him.  It was soooo cute, and a great story with her.

We were in our pjs drinking a bottle of $5 champagne after having dinner w/ both sets of our parents (they were home).  He didn’t want me to change into my pjs but I was stuffed from dinner – and he was attempting to go out after dinner and the proposal but no one was home.  I loved it because it was in our first home we bought together and then last August we got married in the same house by a Justice of the Peace.  :o)

Lovely stories ladies, but I can beat all of those. My dad proposed. Yes, you read that right. We were leaving for a roadtrip in a 1973 Winnebago we renovated (yes we’re nuts) and we had spent the night at my parents place to get out of the city and avoid traffic in the morning. We were saying goodbye to my parents on my front lawn and my dad, who’s like a small child trapped inside a 65 year old man’s body, says “Can I say something??? Can I say something???”. So I’m thinking he’s going to make some smartass comment like “Here’s $50 for your first tow…” and tell him to say what he needs to say. My dad looks at my mom proud as punch and says “Terry, just so you know Mr Bakerella has asked my permission for Bakerella’s hand in marriage and I said yes!”.

*insert stunned silence*

*insert laughter until tears are rolling down our cheeks and your throat hurts you’re laughing so hard*

Meanwhile my dad’s looking around saying “What?? What???”. Fiance looks at me and says “Well…. Do you want your ring?”. So of course I said yes and he went off to the RV to get it.

He came back, gets down on one knee, says lovely things, and asks me to marry him (formally) and I say “Yes yes of course I will!!!”.

HOWEVER while Fiance is doing this, my mom has dropped to her knees in the garden beside us and is weeding while muttering “Don’t tell Lou anything… Don’t you know he can’t keep a secret?!”. Her default to stress is gardening. And her style of gardening is throwing weeds behind her, so Fiance is proposing, I’m dodging weeds, and my Dad is tugging on my mom’s arm telling her to get up, something important is going on.

Oh my gosh, it was a gongshow!!!!! Hardly the proposal Fiance had planned on a mountain top in Newfoundland, but whatever, it was unforgettable. Someone actually made me tell that story three times in a night because the didn’t believe it and thought it was so funny.

love all the stories!!

My Fiance proposed to me on a Monday afternoon on a street corner, just outside my office building.

He had originally planned to propose on our trip back to my hometown on my birthday, but he didn’t realize the ring would take over 2 weeks to be made.  So we went to my hometown, and we got back on Sunday night.  Monday morning he couldn’t wait any longer to propose so he went to the jeweler, picked up the ring, and called me to meet for lunch.  When I came outside he put his arm around me, told me to close my eyes, and held out the ring and said “Will you marry me?”  He was so nervous and shaking!!  Of course I said yes! lol

@MrsJHK2be – My dad is one of a kind, that’s for sure! LOL! He’s adorable. He was so embarrassed at first that he totally denied the story, but now he likes the attention and thinks it’s funny. Apparently when Fiance asked him permission and my dad said yes (which I know a lot of people don’t agree with, but I think it’s so cute Fiance did this because he knows I’m such a daddy’s girl), my dad asked Fiance when he could tell people. Fiance said as soon as we were out of Toronto. My parents live about 2 km from the city border so my dad thought it was okay to tell, LOL!!!! It’s so true, you cannot tell the man a thing! I also made Fiance propose about 10 times more on our trip. I’d look around and say “Okay, this is really pretty, do it here!”. He got tired of it after a while 😉

The dad story is fantastic.  I thought someone had stolen my identity and told my proposal story with the number 2 post!  Same MO totally…parking lot proposal!  Don’t they know we imagine this moment over a lifetime!  But what can you do..you love him!
