@DiamondsandViolets:  Bad idea to lie. We take such matters seriously.  I would rather the truth than to find out the student was lying.

@Olympia:  Gives the best advice. Better to address sooner than later-experimental labs are usually a BIG deal.

I skipped class whenever it rained because I can’t stand walking in the rain.  I live in Florida where it rains every after for part of the year so I would have to save up my allowed absences for classes so I could do this.  Also, I wouldn’t miss a class I was struggling in ever, even if it was raining.

@beemyname:  That’s your opinion – I’ve seen students tell their profs they forgot or slept through the class and get a zero, and others say they were sick and get an extention. I’m not saying it is right, I’m just stating my experience.

@ccantics: In response to the title…All. The. Time. I ended up doing just fine in undergrad and getting into nursing school on those grades. Well, now that I’m in nursing school I don’t skip class, but it’s an accelerated program. No one in my program really misses class unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Don’t beat yourself up. All you can do is move forward and not miss again.

um yeah of couse I do.  I purposely take the maximum amount of absences I can without it affecting my grade (usually 2 or 3) to keep my sanity!  Today I missed a class to spend time hiking with old family friends coming through town who I haven’t seen in about 5 years.  Well spendt in my opinion.  Othertimes I’ve taken an absence to spend time studying or writing for a big test or paper I had due when I need more time and know I won’t miss anything.  I’ve gotten straight As last semester missing this way, I think it actually makes me get better grades

You should be fine. As others have said, your first lab is usually going over the syllabus anyway. Just get with a classmate or the professor just in case you did miss anything.

I missed labs a few times without any issue. I just made sure to get up with someone who took great notes (and some labs were recorded so I could see what we covered). I still had a 3.9 GPA when I left my bology program (my leaving had nothing to do with me missing labs, just financial aid trouble).

@ccantics:  you get to miss 3 labs!  Wow…try 3 classes +labs for a semester…or you’ll be taking the class again as in many of my anthro labs.

Try to not miss anymore, don’t beat yourself up, just add a reminder in your phone and move on.

I seriously hope this is a joke.

Undergrad is a cake walk & usually even blatant skipping won’t affect your GPA much (even if attendance counts).
