I was just reading reviews on tripadvisor for the hotel we’re staying at on our honeymoon and one woman said they upgraded her and her husband to a nicer room because they were on their honeymoon. I think we’ll definitely mention we’re on our honeymoon while checking in! Of course I don’t expect it but it would be really nice! What about you ladies?

Nope didn’t get any upgrades due to honeymoon, did get some upgrades just from complaining about what we were given to start with (ended up Spectacular but born out of complaints not given as a honeymoon upgrade) and in talking to staff got some deals (only paid for one person half board but both of us got to utilise half board package) but really most staff that went the extra mile didn’t even know we were on honeymoon. I guess it depends where you’re going but in many resorts they are so used to couples coming there for their honeymoon it’s nothing special to them. As an example: If you are used to travelling 5 star and you want your Honeymoon to stand out from your usual 5 star holiday you probably need to plan for some extras in advance rather than rely on free upgrades and free extras from the hotel taking you to the next level. A fruit plate and inclusive bottle of bubbly and rose petals in the bath tub is probably what the hotel will provide if they know you are on honeymoon, anything beyond that will be very individual and pendant on many things like the individual staff member or how busy the hotel is etc.

As pp Said depends where you are and whether or not it’s unique to be on honeymoon we went somewhere it’s not standard had already paid for nice room but got a upgrade. Hubby and I always pre choose our own seats anyway and he always worries if we get “upgraded to escape seats” on the plane it might not be so much of a upgrade anyway as you have people standing in the space etc

Yes, but not with our hotel. We paid for the regular swim with Dolphins and we got upgrades to the ultimate swim with dolphins. Basically we just to be with the dolphins longer.

We didn’t because at the resort we were at almost everyone was either on a honeymoon or celebrating an anniversary. Depends on where you are going, etc.

We got married in Hawaii so I was carrying my dress with me. I didn’t just go around shouting we were getting married, but it was pretty obvious from the huge, black bag that said Bridals by Lori on it lol. People would ask if it was my wedding dress and then they would do something nice and we did get upgraded rooms at the two resorts we stayed at. We also had some little gifts given to us as well.

We got a lot of freebies- dessert, champagne, wine etc. But no upgrades. Then again, we used points to pay for everything so we already had a nice room with a view and flew first class. I wouldn’t have expected to be upgraded to a suite or anything.

We did, but I think it had more to do with the fact that we have platinum status ar the hotel chain we stayed at. We were in Fiji so lots of honeymooners. We got upgraded to a suite, had a few bottles of wine given to us and a free dinner, but other honeymooners we spoke to didn’t. Just depends on a few factors I guess. Good luck!

We stayed in 2 hotels during our honeymoon in Maui. The first hotel (Andaz) provided a far superior experience in our opinion but gave zero freebies (didn’t even say congratulations when we said we just got married). The second one (Grand Wailea) asked if it was a special occasion and we said we were on our honeymoon. They upgraded us to an ocean view suite from a regular ocean view room. I’d still stay in our regular room at the Andaz any day of the week.
ETA: May was not peak season in Hawaii, so the hotels were very obviously not booked to capacity. Obviously that would come into play.

- Wedding: July 2015 - Carmen\'s Lakeview
We didn’t even though the travel agent had marked it in our “account” to see if the hotel would do anything. I was actually a bit ticked off as the room we got was the size of a closet and there wasn’t even a coffee maker! We did end up getting a free dessert at our fancy dinner (a $20 free dessert on a $200 bill doesn’t sound like much, but the food was amazing and was at a famous chef’s restaurant )

- Wedding: April 2016 - Manhattan, NY
ladybug55078: We got a room upgrade when we checked in and the man helping us asked what our plans were for (we were in Manhattan for the week of our wedding). That was nice. Aside from that, we got a lot of freebies when we went out to eat (complementary desserts and drinks) because we utilized our concierge a lot to make reservations, and he was happy to tell everyone to treat us well because we were getting married lol

We got champagne delivered to our room, and a complimentary cabana for a day @ the pool, and hooked up on rental car prices.
