I just found out yesterday that I’m pregnant – about 6 weeks along. I am still in a bit of shock, as I just went off the pill in late December. Considering I was on it for 5 years, and had an extremely irregular period before then, I thought I had at least 6 months to a year of TTC. Or at least, until I got one actual period! Don’t get me wrong, I am incredibly delighted and we are very excited (and maybe a little nervous) about the journey ahead.
Did anyone else get pregnant right away after going off their birth control?

Yep! I went off birth control in late october and was pregnant early november. I, like you, was totally shocked because I thought it would take at least 3 months of regular periods to conceive. A very happy surprise for us because we know it’s not that easy for a lot of people.

Congrats!! 🙂 That’s awesome that it happened a lot sooner than you anticipated.
I can’t give my input since I was never on bc, just wanted to say congrats, haha.

I was chatting with my girlfriend about this very thing last night. Apparently she know 2 people this has happened to in the past year…I guess it’s pretty common!

Thanks! We feel incredibly lucky that it happened so fast, as I feel like it easily could have taken years.
I was recently teasing my best friend who went off in October and got pregnant in December – I guess what goes around comes around 🙂

It’s actually very common. Many times doctors put patients on BC to regulate their cycles then for some reason when they go off, they are able to conceive right away. It happened to a girl I know (ex’s new SIL; his brother got married on New Year’s Eve). She went off BC right before they got married and she just found out she’s expecting.

My cousin did. She was going to start TTC in December & went off the pill before Thanksgiving…we got a phone call in December that she was pregnant & she was as shocked as I was because I definitely didn’t expect it that soon when she JUST told me a few weeks before they were “thinking about TTC soon”…I guess you should definitely be ready for a kid like, now if you go off BC! lol

Congrats! And yes count your stars because as of late there are more people that I know that have issues conceiving than not.
I was on BC for 14 years and thought my body would need lots of time to adjust before TTC would work. Took the last pills the end of May. Knocked up in November! I have long cycles too 28-72 days long!! I thought we would be trying for a while!

I conceived 2 weeks after I stopped taking it after 6 years of being on the pill.

Yup. I did. It can be pretty common as some women go through a really fertile period after stopping the pill. I know I did!

I got pregnant while I was still on BCPs. Twice!

I stopped taking BCP in August and became pregnant in November. So not *right* away, but pretty soon after.. I thought it was going to take much longer, and I consider myself very lucky.

Yes, sorta–I stopped taking BC (after 10 years) in June, and we used other forms of protection because I was trying to get my period to regulate..anyway it never regulated and then in October we decided to lift the goalie..and BAM! right away.
My best friend got pregnant right away as soon as she got off the pill, never even had her first real period being off the pill!
