We stayed in the country for our honeymoon and I’m so glad we did! Our wedding was in New Orleans so we went to Charleston SC and Amelia Island FL. It was great to not be rushed the morning after the wedding to leave and were able to go by our house before leaving as well. I was so glad we stayed within the country. We still stayed at beautiful hotels, ate the best meals and had really nice activities planned including massages and horse back riding on the beach.

I’m from California, and we are honeymooning in New York, Atlantic City and Philadelphia. Fiance didn’t want to leave the USA, and neither of us are particularly “beachy”, so we decided to do a sports-related trip. We’ll be going to NBA and NFL games, and doing the usual touristy things. Hoping for not-too-freezing weather!!

Charleston, SC. Several different beaches, tons of nice restaurants, romantic walks along the ocean, carriage rides, plantations. There is just so much to do if I didn’t live here I would definitely have honeymooned here!
So, to make it easy for you, I might not stay IN the downtown of Charleston because it’s a bit expensive. For the beaches it depends on what you want. There’s Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivans Island. Sullivans is residential/local. Folly is kind of “hip” and has a little downtown area to walk around. IOP is wonderful and relaxing. All three are 10 minutes from the downtown area of charleston.

My Fiance are driving from MN to the East Coast. I love the idea of a long road trip and visiting as many states along the way. 🙂 We are heading towards FL.

anjoo: I just noticed your post – we are doing pretty much the exact same thing this October (5th-11th)! Was there anything in particular that you and your husband would specifically recommend? We’re staying in Big Sur the first night, and then Monterey for the next five nights and we will have a rental car.

Didn’t go for my honeymoon but the Fiance and I spent a luxiourious week in Clearwater, FL. Although you’ll have to avoid spring break/ school breaks it’s otherwise pretty low key. We stayed at the Sandpearl Resort which I highly recommend. Rooms are gorgeous and clean, poolside food-drink service, an amazing restaurant, beachfront, and located on a Main Street with tons of restaurant choices, a couple with live entertainment – which are awesome- they have a few very knowledgable concierge who can help you set up dolphin sightseeing tours, jet skiing, fishing trips and much more. I was even able to arrange a limo to pick us up from the Tampa airport -extra fee, but super reasonable and nice noto to worry. Our driver actually was able to recommend tons to do, restaurants, and much more. They have a spa which the Fiance really enjoyed- I don’t like massages so no review from me but overall an absolutely amazing trip. We’ve been three times since our first trip. A little pricey but they have a few different packages/ booking options and if you call they’re usually super helpful finding the best dates etc. if you have any questions you can PM me ! Good luck, congrats on your upcoming wedding.

mrsyeti: You are going to have such a great time – the landscape is so beautiful there. I have a terrible memory for specifics but we had brunch at a place called Nepenthe on their deck outside right on the water, which was beautiful and delicious and we even spotted dolphins from our seats. I hope you have good weather like we did – we were there a week after you, two years ago. Have fun!

futuremrsalbin: YES! We honeymooned in Napa Valley and it was so perfect. Great food, great weather, great wine, and romantic B&Bs. We stayed at the Inn on First and it was so romantic, quiet, private, and amazing. I loved everything about our honeymoon. EVERYTHING.
