Not engaged yet, but I have no intention of being that creative – it isn’t very like me to make such a big deal of things.  Of course, I would plan on showing my appreciation with a gift closer to the time of the wedding…

If I would have known about this site when I got engaged, I would have done something more. But I just asked them face to face.

I had lunch with my Maid/Matron of Honor and asked her. My two sisters were a given and my Future Sister-In-Law kind of found out I was going to ask her and we solidified over the phone.

I didn’t.  Two in person, one via google chat and one via text.

I did it the same way you did! I admit to having guilty feelings after as well – I was like ‘shit. I should’ve done that a lot nicer.’  I’m going to make up for it with awesome gifts 😛

I only asked one of my maids to be my bridesmaid, and it was over a text. my SIL was my other bridesmaid, and it was pretty much a no-brainer that she was going to be one.

I did the exact same thing, as soon as I was engaged I called all three of them and said I wanted them to be my maids 🙂

Ha, I was totally uncreative! One via gchat, and the rest in person.

I gave them cards. Really pretty cards, but just…a card.

But they all knew I was asking them anyway. I think I asked them all when I called them to tell them we were enagaged.

@FutureMrsWeston:  haha are we the same person? my sister’s not my maid of honour but she’s one of my bms and she too is older and i’m getting married first so yeah i definitely wanted to have a mature discussion about it, instead of being all like HEY! I’M ENGAGED FIRST! BETTA BE IN MY BRIDAL PARTY. lol

I’d never heard of doing anything creative before joining the Bee.  I’ve only been asked to be a bridesmaid twice, and both times it was a simple, “I’d really like you to be a bridesmaid.”

When my fiance and I got engaged, I immediately started texting all of my family and close friends.  It was just easier to get the word out that way rather than call each person, talk for a considerable amount of time, etc.  (And trust me, my friends and I always end up talking for hours!  Haha.)

It was during that time that I told the three people I wanted in my bridal party that it would mean a lot to me if they were a bridesmaid (or man of honor in my best friend’s case).  It was simple and it was via text.  I wish I could’ve done it in person, but they all live between 800 – 1000+ miles away … It just wasn’t practical to wait until the next time I see them.

I think it’s great if someone chooses a creative way of asking, but, again, in my situation it’s really not practical.  I don’t think you should feel bad if you didn’t do something fun when you asked … They’ll want to be a part of your wedding whether you ask them in a creative way or not.

No. Not unless you count calling them and asking over the phone. I’ve also been asked via facebook message, and was not remotely put off.
