Did anyone not like their preview photos, but liked the others?

futurekm :  What is it that you don’t like about them?  Is it the composition?  How you’re posted?  Your hair?  Are people’s eyes closed? Or is it things like lighting?

It poured on my wedding day so I was disappointed in that all the pictures were indoors.  But the retouched pictures looked so much nicer than the previews I got.  Photographers can do a lot of editing with software but they’re not miracle workers.  So I think you have to be realistic in what you were expecting at the same time.  Like if you don’t like your hair, that’s not the photographer’s fault.

futurekm :  Glad you asked this. Kind of feeling the same way so following. We got 10 sneak peeks and they are nice but I’m hoping for much better with the rest. Compared to the rest of the sneak peeks on their website posted the same day its like we have no variety. Everyone else seemed to have family, wedding party, reception and venue pics included. We’ve got a few shots together, one ring pic and two solo pics. Then the two shots I like the most seem to be the worst quality out of 10. idk…the more I view and compare the more disappointed I feel. Trying to stay positive. 😕 And honestly I like the way I edited a couple of them a lot better. Not going to complain or anything just would be nice to read others experiences.

This happened to me exactly… I was very disappointed with our preview photos. The quality of the photography was good but they were unflattering. The photographer pointed out one picture in particular as her “absolute favorite” and it was one of me and Darling Husband at the oddest angle where I literally had a double chin. Then I got the rest, and there were many beautiful photos I loved and I was overall really pleased with her work. Fingers crossed this happens for you too!

As a photographer, I generally post images that I feel are unique and different from others I’ve posted. I find that couples tend the link images different from mine because they are emotionally attached and know their facial expressions better. The ones I choose are because they show off my editing and technique.

Just remember, the photos that the photographer thinks are the “best” aren’t necessarily the ones you’ll think are the best. If you already think that some of the photos are pretty, it’s very likely that there will be a lot more that you like when you get all of them back.

And I know this might not be that comforting, but just think about how many wedding photos of your grandparents you’ve seen. Chances are it’s only 1 or 2. So if you end up with 30 photos you love, even if that amount seems very low in comparison to how many you’re getting back, it’s objectively not that bad a number! Maybe reframing it in your head so you’re not thinking about the shots you didn’t get, and are instead thinking about which ones you’ll frame and hang in your house, or thinking about how your grandchildren will have so many more photos of your wedding day than you did of your grandparents’ wedding day might be helpful and might take the pressure off.

futurekm :  I found that a lot of the “best” photos my photographer chose to edit in my previews were by far not the best shots in my opinion. E.g. one of the ones she originally chose for my album (me walking down the aisle with my dad) my eyes were closed, etc. We saw about 200 edited shots in our preview, but luckily got around 3000 in total of the raw images, which I was far more impressed with. Luckily there were tons and tons of nice ones that the photographers captured but she chose not to re-touch/include in our preview. I hope the same happens for you 🙂

futurekm :  I had the same situation as some of the other posters here. The photography itself was great but some of the poses and angles weren’t very flattering. When we got the rest of them though, I was very happy to see some amazing shots. Overall I love our photos. Out of 1000+ photos, I think you’re bound to find at least a handful that you will absolutely love. And I don’t think that the preview ones are necessarily the best ones because it really depends on personal preference.

I liked my full set better than the preview pictures.  My photographer has a more artsy eye and she chose preview pictures which reflected that – unique pictures/poses, etc.  The preview definitely wasn’t the best of the best, in my opinion – just a sampling of the many excellent pictures she took.

Wanted to chime back in since we now have access to our photos. If this helps anyone our pics are totally amazing! 😄 I was worried over nothing. We have 383 images, four hour photographer, and there’s like maybe 15 I don’t really care for which has nothing to do with the photographer. Sun was in my eye, hair was crazy bc of wind, making a weird face etc., So have faith in your photographer and think positive.
