My FH and I were best friends before we started dating, so he knew well in advance exactly what kind of ring I wanted. Regardless of that knowledge, he still openly admitted that, well, he’s a guy, has less than woman-grade taste in jewelry, and wanted me to be completely happy with what we got, so I went with my mom and sisters and picked it out myself. 🙂 He lives in Orlando and I live in Houston, so he didn’t actually see it until he picked it up from the store when he visited me on Valentine’s Day weekend…but we’re both thrilled with it and got it for a fantastic price.

I love my ring but I definitely had a hand in picking out the style. I’m glad that my fiance and I had talked about it and he definitely wanted it to be perfect but still wanted to surprise me. We went to three or four different stores over the course of a few months and I would describe what I wanted (I really liked Tacori’s look with detail on the band and sort of vintage) and I didn’t want bigger than 1 carat (I have tiny hands and it would’ve looked huge!). We talked about what I liked and didn’t like about each ring and he went through the Tacori website with me (every ring!) to get an idea of what I liked. (He also went through the entire website on the phone with his mom, how sweet is that!) The one they liked the most had sapphires around the center stone and while I thought it was absolutely gorgeous, to me it didn’t say engagement ring, I’d envisioned a single stone (not three stone) with some interest on the band. His family is friends with a jewelry store owner so his mom and grandmother helped give him some options and my ring came out of it! And I really do love it. It has a crown setting and diamonds on the sides and top of the band and is gorgeous. I will have to have it resized before the wedding, it slides a little and it came with a matching band but won’t sit right until it’s resized. Letting it go then will be the hardest part!
Here’s a pic of it:

I’m hoping that our discussions from last winter (early december when we discussed what I wanted and how he could figure out exactly) go as planned. I want a combo of a tiffany and cartier style, platinum band, round brilliant center stone, and on either side of the center stone two baguettes. He’s extremely detailed oriented, and we went round and round of the vices/virtues of platinum versus white gold..and he asked me what size solitaire I wanted, i told him to pick it..he said "what about x carat size?" I was thrilled and said "do you want one that big?" and he said "well it’s a man thing..I want your ring larger than your last one."
But I love him and will be thrilled with whatever he gives to me because I know he’s a planning nut and is careful in all the does. Plus I just love him.
