@Mrs_Amanda:  I think we are ring twins! Love the ring – mine was also a surprise and I couldn’t be more happy!

I didn’t, my engagment ring was his grandmothers.  I did see it and approved after his mother gave it to him though (long before he proposed!)…  I love it!  It is the perfect ring for me!  (His grandfather had great taste!)

i had NO idea what my ring was going to look like, or when it was going to appear on my finger for that matter! i was browsing thru a magazine one day and pointed out a tacori ad with my dream ring on top… a year or so later he proposed with this beauty…he remembered the ring i picked out and i was in shock! i love the pave band and the actual setting is filled with diamonds too… and to top it off is my lovely flawless rock =) such a good shopper he is!

He picked it out all by himself ๐Ÿ™‚ All he knew is that I wanted a princess ring w/ some sort of diamonds in the band. The setting he chose has diamonds on all three sides of the band & is so pretty!! I had never even seen anything like it!

I showed Fiance rings I liked (mostly because he sat down one day and said “if you ever want me to marry you, I need to know what kinda rings you like.”) and he went for it! I showed him white gold rings, mostly three stones or very modern designs and generally princess cuts. He took that and found something he loved that had my style too.

I got a three stone round cut ring with inset diamonds in a half-eternity band. Totally matches us both ๐Ÿ™‚

I DID insist, however, on picking out my wedding band. I ended up getting something I never thought I’d go for, and I love it!

@peasantsong:  My DH was the same way! I had no idea he was looking at rings (we were both grad students so we had talked about getting married but I still had no idea he meant *soon*) and my original e-ring looks very similar to yours…yellow gold, with a bypass design, channel set diamonds, but only one row instead of two.  And a much smaller center stone!

Edited to add that at the time I got engaged, I was the only one of my friends that did not have a say in my ring, so I thought it was strange that he had wanted to pick it out himself.  He really wanted it to be a surprise so that’s why he didn’t include me in the planning.

He made me think I was picking it out. He let me show him all of these different ones I liked and he then surprised me with his grandmothers diamonds. It was perfect and I literally look at it all of the time. He did good too ( esp. for someone who asks for my help picking out clothes for work). And to be honest deep down I am very happy he picked it out and not me because it means he cares enough to put thought into it ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t have any say in my ring. I think he did a great job of picking it out!

I had no hand in picking out my ring, but we had talked about what types of rings I like – he knew I liked solitaires and white gold/silver-colored jewelry.  Plus, I talked up moissanites quite a bit, so he knew I liked them.  The actual ring (and proposal) was a total surprise and I LOVE it.

I felt really strongly about having him pick out my ring on his own! He had wanted me to show him styles of rings that I liked & didn’t like to get a better idea. But he picked one I absolutely love!

I didn’t pick out my ring but my Fiance knew I wanted a round center stone and some kind of baguette side stones.  He asked me to show him a few pictures of rings that I liked online… but we never actually went shopping together.  His uncle is a jeweler so he helped him to customize a setting.  I absolutely LOVE it and I love that he took the things I liked but built upon them to make the perfect ring for me. =)
