Has anyone seen Best Man Holiday yet? I watched it opening Friday and I really enjoyed it. The cast has not aged at ALL since the first movie in ’99! It reminded me of the golden age of black cinema and tv: the 90s. Positive, well thought out roles and storylines with successful thriving characters, more identifiable than the Basketball Wives and Madeas of today (no offense to any Tyler Perry fans!). To be honest most shows in the ’90s were really fun and easy to watch and enjoy, I could put my feet in DJ Tanner’s shoe’s as easily as I could Laura Winfrey’s; most characters regardless of race or background were so easy to identify with back then! The only thing I didn’t care for was how the story kind of dragged at the first half, and in the second was jammed packed with activity. My biggest contention with the movie was Mia dying, I felt that it was really unnecessary to the story’s progression, and too sad for a movie that was touted as a holiday rom-com. Watching a mother of 4 very young children die of untreatable cancer on Christmas was overkill, no pun intended. However, if a third movie comes out about Quentin’s wedding (my bet’s are on Shelby as the bride, I felt like they were setting up for that with the hookup scene and Kennedy cuddling up to Q at the funeral) I will definetly go see it!
How did you feel about the movie?
