My bf and I are not engaged yet (money is tight, new house, baby daughter) but he said I could start planning. Hence why my date is June 22 2013. I want to buy my paper for invites and start doing things then store them away (that way im not in a rush when the wedding nears…eventually).
Am I crazy? Has anyone else done this?

@Trish2211: I started looking at venues and getting ideas, I had venue quotes by the time he proposed and came up with a ton of ideas, the thing is… as time goes by I change my mind about things I used to like and thing I now want, I wouldn’t recomend start ‘doing’ things, planning and getting ideas great, but if you do semthing now you might not like it later on, specially if there’s so much time to go.

@Trish2211: Yup. My Fiance told me back in August that I could start planning and we found a venue, picked a date and started asking people to be in the wedding…..but we didn’t officially get engaged (with a ring) until 2 weeks ago in October. Enjoy your planning! 🙂

I only did mental planning though.

Every so often I would look at different wedding wesites just to look. Nothing official was decided. And I’m glad because now that’s actually happening and I have a venue and such I have changed my mind about a lot of things. Including what type of dress I want! haha.

I started planning beforehand…but I got engaged 7 months before the date we had chosen!
But you’re still 1.5 years away! That is a loooong time…. you will be so sick of planning by the end of it.
Please, just enjoy the stage of life that you are in now. (Don’t start planning til at least a year, unless you have your heart set on a certain venue that you know won’t be available closer in advance or something!)

I’ve been planning for like six months and have bought my dress and set a date and still don’t have a ring or the offical proposal, but it is mainly because we tend to do things together and are already an estabished couple(kids, joint accts, joint property, and all that jazz) and he wanted to presenting of the ring to be epic, so in my mind being a little backwards is cool.

I started planning in the same kind of situation. He had bought the ring and was waiting for the right moment. It was fine, but stressful. I would advise you to wait. It’s hard not knowing the date, and if you dont know when he is going to ask… you dont know when the date will be.

@Trish2211: I didn’t start planning until we got engaged, but a few months before my Fiance proposed, he said I can start saving up.

@AmandaLP: I agree…..it was rather stressful trying to make plans but still wanting to keep the news from our families until it was “official”. I finally ended up telling people and then going “but don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret”….it was so funny, because by the time we got engaged, everyone already knew!
