I’m going to be telling everyone who will listen – its only going to happen once!
I’m going to be telling everyone who will listen – its only going to happen once!
I worked at Four Season in Hawaii once for an Internship. They would give HUGE upgrades and comps to honeymoon couples 🙂 I’m talking chocolate covered strawberries in your room and free drinks by the pool. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I shamelessly told any and everyone that we were on our honeymoon. We got upgraded on our flights, upgraded rental cars, upgraded rooms at both hotels, bottles of champagne & chocolate covered strawberries, free desserts or appetizers. I would say it was worth it.
As a travel agent that does this everyday, you should ABSOLUTELY tell them you’re on your Honeymoon.
We went there in 2008! Did you like it?
We’re going to Tryp Cayo Coco and they have a pretty nice honeymoon package, so I am making sure to print out our marriage license. Breakfast in bed, an additional a la carte, a complimentary bottle of rum, etc… Going tomorrow!!
We went to Punta Cana and they had a honeymoon package like a few others said, sash on the door, dinner on the beach, rose petals in our room, etc. We also did a minimoon in Vegas right after our wedding and we just told them it was our honeymoon when we got to the desk, they upgraded us to a really nice suite.
I mentioned it when booking our hotels, but we didn’t get anything special out of it. That being said, we got great service from all our hotels, but not because it was our honeymoon lol. We went to South America, so some hotels I had to explicitly state that we would be married in order to get a double bed vs two twins!! They had either ‘matrimonial’ or normal rooms. (Of course, if we weren’t married, I probably would have lied about it… but not the point haha)
You might as well mention it; either it doesn’t matter at all, or you get some some fun freebies 🙂 No downside!
Question: do you still get these perks if booking with points and online?
Fiance and I are flying with gifted points (long haul), and going to 3 different hotels in Europe (5 star, mostly paid with points). I wonder if this will still work? Or is it pointless?
@FromA2B2013: We eloped at the same place we had our honeymoon. They gave us two bathrobes, sparkling cider (we don’t drink), and these adorable little guys! It was a jacuzzi suite, so rubber duckies make sense lol.
Our hotel didnt give us anything, but we did go out for a fancy dinner and told them it was our honeymoon. We got a free app and one of those flaming alaskan desserts! Yumm 🙂
@FromA2B2013: We haven’t had a honeymoon yet, but we did stay in a hotel the night of our wedding and the next night. DH booked it and wrote that it was our wedding night on the booking form. We got the usual stuff in the hotel package we booked, but they also ran a spa bath for us that night and filled it with rose petals and yummy scented bath things!
We did, and we also showed up in full wedding gear. They didn’t give us anything special (past congratulations and extra pizzaz when checking us in). To be fair, their lobby was full of free limitless icecream and other snacks, so…
We basically mentioned it to anyone and everyone we could without being obnoxious about it, just kind of casually slipped it in there. Never got anything extra from it, unfortunately. In fact, one woman tried to use that to (aggressively) talk my husband into paying $70/day extra on a convertable. Yeahhhh, no.
It didn’t help that we went to Hawaii, where every other couple was also on their honeymoon. I think if people were in the business of giving things away to honeymooners, they’d be out of business pretty quickly.
We did, and we got a nice card and a really bad bottle of champagne. Even though we had a hard time choking it down, it was still nice and made us feel special!
