Fiance is a hard fit off the rack and a very fashionable fella. An amazing Hong Kong custom tailor had a trunk show recently and we ordered his tux! Midnight blue, contrast shawl collar, single button. so hot.
That said, his tux is almost twice as much as my wedding dress. We have a good laugh about it but other people seem horrified. Like there’s a rule we weren’t aware of.
Anyone else have a dress cost less than FI’s suit?

Fiance got a free suit to keep and a free tux rental for having our GMs rent through the company. I don’t think he’d ever spend over $200 on a suit regardless, he doesn’t wear them often enough for it to be worth it.

Yep! Haha, but we’re both cheap–he got a lovely Michael Kors suit from Men’s Wearhouse–very re-wearable, plus they were having their BOGO sale, so he actually got two nice suits. My dress was a relatively inexpensive DB dress. Here we are in our finery!

Yes. I bought my dress from Nordstrom for just $450. His suit was more and he’s worn it a few times since we became married.

@nocleverbeepun: Definitely not! Fiance was adamant on choosing our wedding photographer because he HATES having his photo taken. He chose a $4500 photographer so we decided that he needed to rent his suit to save us some money. My dress budget was $1000 and I found my dress for $875.

@nocleverbeepun: It was a really, REALLY close run thing and I’m not sure which came in more expensive. It was a fabulous tailor-made designer hand-stitched kilt suit with Harris tweed jacket and a whole bundle of accessories.

People have a stereotype that weddings are all about the bride, so they expect you to be the one in the more lux garment. I think it’s a good call to spend more on the man’s suit, honestly, as he’s got the much better chance of rewearing it, either together if you are going for a suit, of it the groom will be in a tux, you can keep the separates, or order a standard jacket from the same designer/collection.

@nocleverbeepun: MY Dh is a bit high maintainence when it comes to clothes, so we had the same budget amount for my dress and his suit, he stayed within his budget, but had I not needed a custom dress (length issues) I wouldn’t have been surprised if he ended up spending more on his attire than I did! one thing I do know, his shoes cost more than mine for the wedding!

@nocleverbeepun: his cost more. mine was off the rack and on sale. His was a classic Paul Smith suit that fit like a glove.

@nocleverbeepun: My FI’s suit didn’t cost more than my dress, but he definitely didn’t go the cheap rental route either. Him and his groomsmen all got custom tailored 3-piece suits and dress shirts a total cost of $800. That was actually quite a deal too, as the regular cost was $1,500 per person.
At the original price for the suits he would have matched my dress cost, and his groomsmen had to shell out double what the bridesmaids paid.

My SO loves getting dressed up and was excited to get a custom fit suit for our big day. Before alterations, his suit was a few hundred more than my dress. However, I think we evened out after all was said and done.

@nocleverbeepun: Oh my goodness, no! My dress was $3,000 and my Fiance got his designer suit on sale for $299.
