I just received my moissanite ring, and I have mixed feelings. I thought I did enough research. But I’m not sure anymore 🙁
So I got this ring pre-loved. My intention was that I would buy this ring now, mostly for the stone. Then I will eventually set the stone on a different setting and create my dream ring. I paid $1500 ish for the ring. It’s 4 ct radiant cut moissanite with 14k white gold band and I thought it was a GOOD deal.
I receive my ring, and the ring looks very yellow to me under the sunlight.
Under some lightings, it’s not that bad. But it’s so YELLOW compare to my 0.75ct round cut real diamond.
So now I question myself…. was it a really good deal or was I stupid…
I know I’m comparing the moissy to a smaller and differently cut diamond. But I just couldn’t believe how much more warmth this moissy has.
I’m sure it’s unenhanced too, but from watching all thoese youtube videos, I liked the unhanced look slightly better
After receiving the ring, I did more reading on the interweb…
People say “fancy cuts” will show more warmth, even if it was mined diamond… Do they?
Thank you for your input!!!

Radiant cut moissanite tend to show alot of body color so I imagine a 4 carat would have a noticeable ting to it. I don’t think $1500 is too much for a 4 carat radiant cut moissanite. Does the seller offer returns?

I emailed the seller and am waiting for her response.
I guess I’m spoiled by watching all those pretty shinny sparkly round cut moissanites on youtube 🙁 I should probably try to capture that warmth in couple pictures, so I can share! It’s still a beautiful stone, but maybe my expectations were a little too high?
This is my very first moissanite

nanabb1202: But remember you’re comparing to it an actual diamond. The moissy won’t look the same and won’t look as clear per se as a diamond because it’s not a diamond. I’m terrible with pricing, but $1500 for a 4 carat ring doesn’t sound bad. Are you sure it looks yellow? Or just not as white as the diamond?

nanabb1202: The very newest cut moissy is whiter than before, but if you got this one pre-loved it may be from older stock. However, like PP said the cut adds to the color too. I suggest selling it to someone and hitting the drawing board again.

I’d love to see a picture!! I love warmth in diamonds, I own a light fancy yellow solitaire as my RHR sI maybe I’m biased. I’m sure it’s beautiful and it sounds like you got a good deal, I haven’t got any moissanite jewellery but I have seen so many and would love another RHR moisanite ring lol 🙂

A 3.5ct radiant loose moissanite stone is $1575 at Moissanite Co., so I’d say you got a deal monetarily. If you don’t like it, though, then it’s not a very good deal.
I would say sell it or return it and get something you really do love.

mrs.joiner: I agree. When side-by-side to a diamond, you will probably notice the natural properties of a moissanite much more. Best to compare it to another moissanite. Can you go to a jeweler that sells them? That way you could get an appraisal for it while you’re there.

Fancy cuts always show more colour, regardless of the stone, and larger carat weights also show more colour. A fancy cut unenhanced moissanite in a huge carat size is bound to show a fair amount of colour. I cannot speak to the price being a “good deal” or not, but if it isn’t visually appealing to you then any price is too much. I hope the seller offers returns.

In all seriousness though, if the color bothers you, try to return.

i personally LOVE the warmth of the moissy and am drawn to pear or radiant cuts for this reason. (ovals too). You also have to imagine that LOTS of woman pay extra for a yellow tinted diamond. AND a lot of celebrities are sporting the yellowish stones these days. Lets see some pics! I bet it’s GORGEOUS
