Our wedding venue is about half an hour away from most of our guests. I was just thinking about this today, but because of the driving do you think most people won’t drink? We blocked rooms in a hotel nearby, with a free shuttle, but rooms are still about $170 for the night which is steep. I’m afraid most people won’t drink because they have to drive home, And won’t have as much fun or let loose as I hope. I know it’s not the end of the world if they don’t drink and that alcohol is not the most important thing. But I still want them to have a good time and it’s open bar.
What did people at your wedding do? Should I do anything else to make travel easier for them?

@SadMrsToBe: People drive to bars all the time and drink there. Most people drive certain distances to weddings and drink, the length of time it takes to drive shoud not matter. When you’re drunk, you’re drunk. People will definitely drink, but if you’re worried about drunk driving you can ask the bartender to cut people off a half hour before the venue shuts down. Bartenders can also look out for drunk people and water down drinks.

For a situation like yours, one of us would be the designated drinker and one would be the designated driver. And in our relationship, the designated driver does not have even a single drink. So among your couples you will probably have about a 50/50 split.

Depends on the area. Will taxis come? If yes, then we would drink. If not, then we’d pick a Dirty Delete or else cut ourselves off early.
