Wondering if anyone out there is changing their wedding plans because of the unfortunate economic climate. I’ve heard some people scrapping their big weddings for something smaller or even destination. Is this really happening??

So far we have not made any changes to budget, location, etc. I don’t think at T-5 weeks we have that luxury. Our wedding was already psuedo destination and I think early on we all sat down and made realistic goals and planned accordingly.
I have been curious to see how many of our guest are affected though, but so far the turn out has not been weak.
Good Luck to you all! A happy and prosperous New Year!

- Wedding: August 2018 - Oakland Manor
A fair amount of our wedding budget was in pounds. When we developed the budget we did it based on an exchange rate of 2:1 (2 american dollars = 1 pound sterling). Now the exchange rate is around 1.5:1 and a portion of our money just dissapeared due to the falling exchanged rate.

Fiance and I thought about it for a bit because he got laid off in early December. We have money set aside for the wedding and significant savings, and we were already planning what we thought to be a not out of control expensive wedding for our area. We were attempting to come under budget as much as possible already, and we will continue to do so even more viligantly now.

We actually thought about
canceling postponing the wedding. Fiance was laid off in late June and was unable to find a job for six months! We were growing worried on not being able to increase our wedding savings and instead having to take from it to cover everyday living expenses. I was very hurt to think that we would not get married after all but I knew i needed to be realistic and we could always get married when times got better. We did not cancel, he finally got a job and we couldnt be happier, not only will we be getting married as scheduled, but we wont lose the money we had already given for deposits!
Times are very rough and we all have to make the best decisions we can, I’m sure a lot of us are cutting down on expenses and details here and there. We are still trying to make this wedding happen for much, much less than the average wedding in Los Angeles.

Glad that you’ll be able to have your wedding! There are always ways to cut costs…so hang in there!

Oh yeah. My fiance hasn’t been able to get a job that pays very well. He’s doing one now for less than what he would be making if obviosuly the economy was doing great. Our parents cant afford to contribute because the effect the economy has had on them. So were dealing with a lot less money than what we would be otherwise.
So it’s small and simple for us.
