I think the fact you have an F color with other great specs says you didn’t over pay. There is a huge price difference between a F, a G, a H etc – you paid a bit more for a clearer stone.

I plugged your stats into Blue Nile and it looks like you paid right on par with what they charge – so don’t worry! It’s gorgeous!

Seems pretty close to the cost of my sister in laws ring and they look extremely similar.

If you did pay a bit more than you should have, it wasn’t by much.

The diamond, being so clear and colorless, is worth more than diamonds of the same size.  Your stne worth even more if the cut is excellent or ideal. Brilliant cuts are more expensive than other cuts, by the way.  That’s because of the number of facets that need to be cut.  I would put your stone in the $4000-$5000 range, based on what I know.

The bigger question is the platinum.

Prices for platinum, like gold, are extremely high these days.  It’s hard to tell what the weight of your metal is.  Two platinum bands can look exactly the same, but weigh differently (e.g. the thickness of the ban matters).  So add another 800-1200 for the platinum.

Also, what are the number of platinum prongs?  Four or six.  Six costs more.

Is the ring engraved?  Add more money.

You get the idea.  Sure.  Maybe you could have looked and looked and looked and got the ring for a bit less.  But what is your time worth?  How much gasoline would you have burnt up driving sround…blah blah blah.  You get the point.

    Relax.  You did just fine.

I don’t think he overpaid at all.  My ring cost more than that and has a lot of the same specs as yours.  Don’t worry too much about it.  Some places charge a bit more for the name too.

I went through the same thoughts as you awhile back about my own ring, and came to the conclusion that it’s not a competition for the “best deal”.  I mean ok, no one wants to get screwed, but honestly, what you got was a GREAT ring, and the price he paid for it, in my opinion, is reasonable.  And the best part about it is that he picked it for you.  I think it’s gorgeous!!
