I didn’t even think about kegs… what a great idea! Our venue doesn’t serve alcohol anyway, so we can bring all of our own. Wow, can you tell I didn’t do the typical college party experience? (I got it out of my system in high school, whoops.)

$4 a beer is a lot, so I’d definitely ask them. I’m surprised the corkage fee is so high.

You don’t have anything to lose by asking! I say go for it, the worst they will say is no. No harm done. And if they say yes, then great, it will save you a ton of $!

We are having 4 kegs, although we don’t have the “they already serve beer” situation.

we bought our keg through our caterer and he bought it to our venue.  Our venue charged a 35% alcohol tax in addition the the 10% state alcohol tax.  So our keg which normally would have been like $100 to $150 at a liquor store ended up costing us $400 I believe.

I’m planning to, but my venue doesn’t really have any restrictions at all on alcohol, so it’s kind of a no-brainer for us.

Well since the caterer had to be the one that brought in the keg (since he has a liquor license, not us) he marked up the price too, then the taxes were added onto that.  So I guess I’m just saying that a keg that would normally cost $150 at a liquor store for any normal party ended up costing us $400 for our wedding because the caterer had to supply it and then the venue charged their crazy alcohol taxes.  Sometimes it would have been easier to just have a backyard reception at my parent’s house.  Almost everything would have been a more normal cost!

It may very well be average, I haven’t had to deal with corkage fees thus far, so don’t trust me!
