I don’t see many caucasian girls looking great in a bright white.  I think white looks fantatsic on African American girls, but not on me at all.  I’m a redhead and I look best in off-white/ivory/etc.

I ran into this dilemma when it came time to ordering my dress (ivory vs white).  The sample dress I tried on was in ivory which looked good on me BUT I could see the “yellowness” in it which bothered me.  I don’t mind a “warm” tone but I am getting married in June and will be tan so I was worried about the dress coming off dingy looking.  I went on-line in search of brides who have ordered my dress in white.  I found 3 brides that sent me pictures and they looked great in it!  It is a true white but in a good way.  I went back to the salon and switched my order from ivory to white.  The consultants said I made the right choice.  My dress will be in within the next few weeks !!!  I hope that the white in person is all I expected it to be.  I’ll post pics once it arrives.

For reference this is me in the ivory sample dress:

This is a pic of a bride with it in white:

Pure bright white is hard to wear for most people.  The color is too stark and can wash people out, especially in photos.  However, some people rock it.  More power to them.  (I’m not one of those people though.)

@brideybean:  I agree with @soulmates:  It might be an issue of your Future Mother-In-Law thinking white is virginal.  She sounds like a gem lol.  Wear whatever you want though.  I chose an ivory dress because I am pale, and I just like the warmer look.

@MissNachoLover:  Mine is “natural” too!  Justin Alexander?

From a photographer’s perspective ivory photographs more naturally white than a white dress.  We constantly had brides complain that their ivory dress looked white in pictures.  Keep in mind that if you really want the dress to photograph ivory or another off-white shade you will need to go a bit darker than what your eyeball sees (the flash and sunlight “whites” out some of the ivory/off-white.)

A lot of times the details on a true or bright white dress will get blown out by the flash and/or sunlight in pictures.

Mine was also soft white, but also came in bright white and ivory.  I chose it because that’s what the sample was and it looked great to me, so I figured why chance it with something I hadn’t seen against my skin.

White…at the insistence of my fiance. But I’m not pale so I think I’ll be ok 🙂

I was surprised to find that there weren’t that many white dresses anymore. Most of the dresses were off white or ivory. Mine was an eggshell color.

My dress is ivory. Not quite an off white but a soft, creamy white.
