MrsAloi:  lol just a comment on the old wives tales in particular.  I felt like lots of them didnt’ apply to me at all!

    Skin dry or soft? both

hair thinner or full?  how about “normal” or no change

sweet or salty?  where does fat and carbs fit in here?

look better or worse?  NO CHANGE

basketball or watermelon belly?  WUT.  It’s huge what is the difference?!

I will say, the only one I’ve seen to seem to be true more often than any of the others is the heartrate one.

MrsAloi:  well I had all the tales for girl and it turned out to be right. The only thing is… back in my moms day the carrying low/high tale was the opposite (low girl – high boy) …at least where Im from. She carried low, and sure enough had me….Im carrying the same as her and Im having a girl!

shanbp:  The way you carry has NOTHING to do with the sex of the baby. It has a lot to do with the strength of your abdominal muscles prior to becoming pregnant. Women who carry higher generally had strong abdominal muscles prior to prgnancy, whereas, previous pregnancies or decreased fitness cause a woman to carry low. Torso length may also play a part, but sex does not. Please do not bank on having a certain sex based on this old wive’s tale. Congratulations on the pregnancy! ๐Ÿ™‚

LBeeLove:  ya I know lol… I think you meant to tag the OP not me. My comment was more or less de-bunking the theory (as how I carried and my mom are the opposite of what they claim it to be). Back years ago half the wives tales were reversed as to what they say now so its still all just a fun guessing game…..I know my mom used to swear by the needle/wedding ring over the belly swing haha. I never actually tried that one but I do remember googling it and what it said for which was boy/girl was the opposite of what my mom told me. I think they just switch them out every 30 years lol.

MrsAloi:  I’m with everyone who says the way you carry has nothing to do with the baby’s gender. First of all- I cannot think of any possible explanation why a female baby would be carried differently from a male baby as a result of the baby’s gender. For anecdotal evidence- I’m 41 weeks pregnant (baby is way too comfortable in there), and I cannot count the number of times random people have come up to me and said “Oh, you’re having a boy”. Nope, she’s a girl. I just have a small frame and the baby turned head down early (i.e., she wasn’t transverse, which would have made my belly look wider). I’m sure it would be the same with a boy, only that then my belly would match peoples’ expectations ๐Ÿ™‚ I think the main appeal of old wives’ tales is that most of us have to wait to the halfway point of our pregnancies to find out our baby’s gender, so it’s fun to guess ๐Ÿ˜€

shanbp:  LOL! I’m sorry! Totally meant to reply to the OP! Haha…I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant, and I totally had fun with some of the old wive’s tales. Some of them are pretty clever and fun, but others like this one are so off! Lol.

LBeeLove:  ha no prob. I know I’m partially really low because I have a ridiculously long torso. Een my mom said when I was born I looked weird next to other babies Born at the same time because it was so long lol. 30w this week and it feels like FOR-EVER already!!

shanbp:  Yeah, I can totally see torso length having a lot to do with the way one carries! So funny and amazing how even itty bitty babies can have such different body types at birth! Congratulations on being in the 30’s! Thats a huge milestone (at least in my book)! Only 7 more weeks until full-term for you! Yay! I feel like the climb leading to the 30’s seems a bit daunting, but once there I’m sure it’ll go by fast! ๐Ÿ™‚

They were true for me both pregnancies. My daughter was VERY high and my son was low.

I’m not sure how I’m carrying. I feel like I’m right in the middle? I don’t know. I am super short and have a short torso though so I feel like there’s really only one place he can be haha. It’s most definitely a boy though! ๐Ÿ™‚

MrsAloi:  Sorry it took me DAYS to see that you had asked me a question

I felt like I was lower the second time, but my pregnancies were close enough together that I attributed that feeling to the fact that my abs gave up sooooo early.  I didn’t gain as much weight the second time either, and the weight I did gain was mostly bump weight.  The first time (daughter) my arms, face, legs, butt, and hips were all fuller, and I gained a LOT more total weight.

I carried super high for most of my pregnancy, and I had a girl. Actually, most of the old wives’ tales predicted a girl. It’s all in good fun.

I think I’m carrying pretty high, and I’m having a girl.  But, I’m also short (5’4″) with a short torso, and I think that likely affects it more. (this photo was yesterday, and 24w1d).
