I kept it in its garment bag and carefully rolled it into a rolling suitcase that can be carried on. I figured that way, I wouldn’t be dragging it on the ground in the bathroom at the airport or stepping on it/crushing it, etc.

You will have to get it steamed out when you arrive in NYC – i’d call around and price that out so you know where you are taking it!

I’ve heard that a lot of times if you ask the flight attendants, they will hang the garment bag in First Class.  Can’t verify that though.

Yes.  I was a smiling fool in the airport and got a ton of help.  A nice, female TSA person at the security check point came out to me while I was still on line and said “I’ll take the dress, honey, don’t worry.” I almost cried right then and there.  They were so careful putting it through the scanning machine.

I sat close to the gate for my flight and asked the agent if it was okay for me to pre-board with the dress.  She said it was no problem.  So, when they asked for people flying with children or those needing extra time to board to come forward, I went on and took over an entire overhead bin for my dress (thankfully, this wasn’t a tiny plane, so the bin was deep).

It went just fine!
