I currently have two email addresses, my gmail and my school email. My school one will eventually expire and I made a third one with my new married name for wedding related emails/etc…..when do I change my regualr gmail over to my new one? or do I sync them together? How does that work? What did you do?

@MissEMich: I have a Yahoo email address that I use for fun stuff and another Yahoo that is my business email. Fiance has his own servers complete with email, and he has created an address for me with my soon-to-be last name. I’ve already started directing people to that email address from my business Yahoo, but it’s not a lot of people. I also forwarded any specific emails I felt I needed to keep but otherwise and just going to lose the rest of my inbox. Not like I read through it anyway.

I have my school email with my current name (I don’t get married until august). I plan on making a new one after the wedding with my new name. I will forward my school one to my new email. Because my boss doesn’t want to bother with giving me a new email address in 8 months, I will get a work email address with my married name. My business cards are going to have my married name on them too and I will start using both right away. (I started there in December and have been open about the fact that I’m engaged. I didn’t need the business email address and cards right away, but my position is evolving such that I will need them soon.)

It’s funny because I was so excited to get an email with my new married last name, but 4 months after the wedding it still hasn’t happened.

Ok thanks ladies! I think i’m going to link the 3 email accounts and eventually get rid of my college on (unless I go back to grad school in the fall).

I’ve already nabbed a gmail account with my married name since it’s a rather common name and I don’t want it to be stolen! I’ll begin using it after the wedding. I honestly don’t get much important stuff to my old emails, so I think I will just change my account information on my regular websites and check back on my old one every few weeks.

I will change it. My current email address only has my first name and middle initial in it but I love what my new name will be so I want to change everything

I tried to create a new email with my new name and its already taken! And it’s not a common name either! I’m not married yet, so I have time, but I have to go back to the drawing board and think of what I want for my new email 🙁

@mrsSonthebeach: I didn’t know you could do that. Do you have to physically forward each email, or is there a way to do it easily?

Awwwww crap! I was soo excited because I had a vistaprint groupon that was going to expire so I made a bunch of business cards and return address labels and notebooks etc for when I graduate with my MSW in June and including my new last name…EXCEPT I used my old email on the business card. Guess I won’t be changing it for awhile 🙂
This never even crossed my mind! You bees think of EVERYTHING 🙂 🙂

By The Way if you use outlook.com (the old hotmail) you can make aliases, so like under one account you can have several different [email protected] and they’ll all come to your one email. I’m not sure if I’m explaining that correctly. But I use this feature, I have a spam one that I use to enter contests.

Some accounts allow you to have multiple addresses that will be accepted. I actually added one with my maiden name after I was married, because a bunch of my coworkers started using a wrong address. Instead of doing [email protected], they did [email protected] *facepalm*. Why it started to happen after they had it correct for years, I do not know! lol
I thought about adding one with DH’s last name, but I was already at my max!

@icetea: aliases, yes! lol It’s clearly time for me to go to bed as the term was not coming to mind.
