Did you choose your engagement ring?

I picked out my own ring with BF’s input. He was very transparent about his budget for the ring and gave clear preferences on his choice of centre stone and metal type. Luckily we both love sapphires and it’s his birth stone, so the choice of centre stone was a no-brainer. I’m very picky and had a lot of difficulty settling on a style, but we are now awaiting the completion of a custom blue sapphire cushion ring from The Natural Sapphire Company :).

simplebee92 :  Damn right I did. I dropped hints and purposely left around Tiffany magazine advertisement on the coffee table when they had “the most beautiful ring in the world” campaign. And if he still did not get it, then I would have been lost for words. Thankfully, he got it. What can I say? I’m shallow LOL

simplebee92 :   My fiancé and I went ring shopping and I tried on different settings a couple of times.  We found the perfect setting on the second visit, then ended up choosing the stone that same day.  We communicated every step of the way, and are both happy.  He wanted to get me the ring of my dreams, and I’m excited to say that this is my ring debut on here, as he just proposed on Sunday! ☺️

He asked me to show him what I liked. So i introduced him to emerald cuts. He wasn’t crazy about them. So, I ended up picking a cushion cut and I am very happy with it.

Yes, we went shopping in the Los Angeles diamond district together. I had two heirloom baguettes I wanted to use as side stones, and he knew I wanted an emerald center stone. He set the budget and we went to a few jewelers and looked at what they had. When we found the one I loved, he asked me if it was the one and I said yes. We gave the jeweler the side stones and he made the ring!

We picked our rings together. Of course I wanted a bigger ring that I saw but he saw this one and he liked it. I do think the middle diamond is small, but I love the diamond around it. To have a bit more diamond, I went with the wedding band and I love the black diamond instantly. I recently added the yellow gold on top just for fun.

We picked it out together in the store! And I am soooo grateful I got such a huge say, I wanted something unique so it could have gone badly otherwise.

I am exceptionally particular. I made him join Pinterest like a week after we started dating so he’d never make the mistake of getting me a present I didn’t want.

We talked for a long time about custom, but I found this setting and fell in love. I knew for sure I wanted a kite set princess, so we found our own stone then had a custom head made to accommodate the gem.

I’ve never seen anything like it, and it’s just what I wanted. FH is just happy I’m happy. He also loves how sparkly it is

I am not trying to be confrontational here… I am genuinely curious: Why would it matter if your fiancé liked one cut of diamond or style of ring over another?

Obviously I understand if you are talking about a difference in price, but when it comes to style, why would you care if he liked one more than another?  As you are the one wearing it, I’m just not sure if I would give his opinion as much weight.

Sorry to hijack the thread!  Am I the only one who feels this way?

I made a Pinterest page of rings I liked.  I must have driven my husband crazy as my styles were all over the place.  We then went to the jewelry store so I could try on several of the styles I had pinned, and was surprised that some of my favorites were not my favorites once I tried them on.  My husband picked one of the first rings I tried on, a round in a split shank halo.  I loved step cuts, but he wasn’t crazy about them; his favorite was the round brilliant cut because it was the most sparkly.  I wanted him to like the ring too so I didn’t push for a step cut.  He decided on the budget, and I offered to pay for half but he refused.  He got me a much bigger ring than what I was expecting.

Yes, we went to try on the rings together and picked out and customized a desgin. He didn’t decide a budget until we had looked a couple times but when he did he communicated it to me before we went to pick out the center stone. We ended up going over the stated budget we both liked a stone that was more.

I chose the stone and setting from James Allen and sent it to him. He didn’t give me a budget so I decided to go with 2 weeks pay for him (around 5k). Little did I know he purchased the ring the day after I sent it to him!

Yes I chose my diamond and got it custom designed and made with my (now) husband. The initial budget he had in mind was WAY off how much it cost. He had no idea how much diamonds cost when we started looking, so he revised the budget. I looked at many jewellers m, tried on so many rings and got heaps of quotes from a huge range of jewellers. The ring we ended up going with was a little over his revised budget still but it was good value and he was happy with the jeweller, diamond and design so made the final decision to go ahead and put a deposit on the ring. I was really surprised because it was over budget that he had been quite set on, but it was my dream ring and everything just fell into place 😊
