I did – after the proposal.

I had only made a few passing comments about not liking bling and liking simple jewellery but we never actually discussed engagement.

He proposed with a ring he chose which was simple and pretty and I quite liked it (it was huge though,  bigger than my thumb) but he made it quite clear it was only a temp ring and I had to choose what I wanted.

I got it resized to fit my middle RH finger so I can still wear it, its still meaningful as he did put thought into it and its the one he proposed with.

My now husband, completely surprised me with a proposal and a beautiful, unique promise ring. We then we after the excitement died down and purchased my” forever beauty”together. I wear my promise ring every day on my RHS

We chose it together. I knew that I liked a pear shaped diamond and we chose the setting together. This way was perfect for us as we already have our accounts joint so we were both paying for it anyway.

We looked together. As luck would have it, he was the one to point out the design we ended up going for. I made slight modifications during the custom process.

We are in the process of buying now. I am involved, but I told him that he could also choose a round center stone and propose with that and that we would then choose a setting together. But, I’m glad I have been involved as much as I have. What I originally wanted on my Pinterest board has changed so much. We looked into sapphire and other gemstones, changed from platinum to rose gold, went from a small halo to a solitaire with a plain band that we both liked. In part, this was due to his input and likes as well as trying rings on and getting out of the bubble of the engagement ring only, and taking into account how it would look with a wedding band. In the end, I have been involved in the main stone which has been purchased but I have not seen, and he will be ordering the setting, which I believe I know which solitaire he will go with, and whether he will do a customization I suggested, but while I am still suggesting things and giving input, he’s making the final choices and I will not see the final product until he proposes. I feel like it’s been a perfect combination of surprise and input from us both and both of our likes.

I have chosen mine…my original plan was to figure out a few details I like (white gold, solitaire, etc) and share with a close girlfriend who I would tell him to ask when the time came so I wouldn’t see the proposal coming. But once I went to stores and started trying rings on and learning more about them, there were so many I thought I would like, even seeing them in the cases, but once I put them on I wasn’t a fan. I fell in love with a particular setting at a particular store so I told him okay, this is it! Haha

He is actually relieved to not have to worry about getting it right!

We chose it together and we didn’t have a traditional proposal. We looked at diamonds together and chose one we both liked and I worked with the jeweler on a custom setting.  But still…when he gave it to me, even knowing what the ring looked like, I was still overwhelmed with love and joy.  The person giving it to you is still what matters most.  🙂

summerrose33 :  We had looked at styles, but since I honestly wouldn’t have been able to choose a setting I left that to him. I flip flopped between halo, side baguettes, pave, plain solitaire… I had no idea what I really wanted forever because I liked them all!  The only thing I told him was important to me was that it be an emerald cut diamond. He picked a beautiful halo setting and I love it 🙂

summerrose33 :  Well right now the SO is getting ready to set the stone. I basically showed him the setting I want and where to go for it. Basically he has the final say. So only time will tell…but I really hope he goes with the setting I want since I am super picky (which he knows). As for now, I would say I did pick out the setting, but only time will tell.

I had tons of input but didn’t chose the actual ring. We actually just got engaged a few days ago. Months ago my fiancé had me send him links to my favorite rings. I designed them on James Allen. He then bought a ring considering all the elements I really like. I love the ring and it was still a complete surprise though it had some familiar elements to it.

Yes, he wanted me to love it, and I’m pretty picky about stuff.  I first went with friends to look and then the two of us went together to look and bought it.
