We combined all accounts after engagement when we bought a house so technically, before marriage. Except credit cards that we each have in our own name, we never added each other etc… We only have one credit card “together” which is a costco amex and technically, it’s mine. But still, all CC’s are paid from our joint checking and I manage all of them.

Once my Fiance and I got engaged we bought a house together and combined finances so we could just enjoy being married after the wedding.   We each have our own chequing accounts and credit cards and we also have a joint chequing and a joint savings account. We deposit our pay cheques into our private account and just transfer a set amount each into the joint chequing for all bills, groceries, large shared purchases. We each also put a percentage of our pay cheques in the joint savings account. All day-to-day personal expenses come from our private accounts.   It’s nice because I’ve already contributed to all the necessities and savings per month, but I can blow the rest of my money on anything and my Fiance has no say. I also don’t have to worry about what he’s taking out of the account. We are very similar in spending habits though, so it’s not like he’d freak out if he did want to see my daily purchases. I wouldn’t do it any other way 🙂
