I’m having a groom’s cake made for our wedding next year & it will be paintball themed since my fiance plays professional paintball. He has no idea & even I hadn’t heard of such a thing until I started planning. I’m SO excited! Although it will be a mini cake, it will still have a lot of detail & fondant so I’m wondering how much other brides paid for a groom’s cake.
Did you do a groom’s cake? What was it? Pics? Price?

I dont understand the whole “grooms cake thing” I thought the wedding cake was “the cake” why does a groom need a special cake? Can someone enlighten me on this subject.

No, we didn’t. I think they are kind of pointless and not worth the extra money’s worth. Why not just enjoy the wedding cake together? It’s *both* your guys’ cake.

I also don’t understand the whole “grooms cake” thing. I mean is it because it is typically thought (wrongly, of course) that the wedding is all about the bride and this is a way to allow the groom something special?
I mean, I love cake so I wouldn’t be all “eww a grooms cake!”, I just don’t understand the point.

I’m intruiged… what’s this “groom’s cake” tradition we speak of? I haven’t attended too many weddings in my adult years and have never been to one with a “groom’s cake”. Does he pick this himself? Or is it always a surprise?

We didn’t do one. I already spent $1500 on a cake for my guests, I didn’t need one of a football or some other unique thing for DH to have a cake of his own. Personally, I think they’re just another wedding gimmick brides get conned into paying for.

I had one made and my DH LOVED it. It was a complete surprise. This cost me $120 and fed 15-20 people.

UndercoverKitty007: futuremrscrow: anndck: freckles071611: I don’t think there is really a “point” it’s just more of a fun thing that is surprising to him. If he didn’t play paintball, I wouldn’t do it. Bc I think the super hero ones are really lame. But this one has more of a concrete meaning bc paintball is really important to him. And to me, since I travel with his team. 🙂

JiminyCricket: Yeah I’m getting my cake & cupcakes for free from a family friend who is a baker, so that’s another reason I wanted to do it 🙂

JiminyCricket: I agree, I think a lot of wedding things are gimmicky nowadays. It’s all about the “show” of it all anymore.

We had one at our rehearsal dinner – it was decorated like a pool table, since DH is really into billiards. I have no idea what it cost, since it was handled by DH’s parents. I’ve ssen some really cool ones, but they’ve always been at rehearsal dinners in my circle.

anndck: No one said it’s all about the show. It’s just a fun cake to surprise my groom with 🙂
