Yup, that's the standard now! Pay up or take photos yourself. : (6 votes)

whoa, Thats more than i paid for a photographer to shoot my wedding and give me all the digital prints. I would def keep looking. I have a great friend who does excellent newborn and child work.. She only charges like $75 for the shoot and then you pay for the photos.

Holy F….! My newborn photos were $300. The photog came to my house, spent hours, made sure we got everything we wanted, and we got all the pics on a disc. Totally worth it. But there is NO WAY I would spend $3200 on it… Just buy an awesome camera and take them yourselves (when my little guy was a couple months old, we did that too).

I’m not a photographer but holy moly that sounds like a LOT.  I’ve been researching this a bit in my area (philly) and I found some expensive ones but nothing like that.  We’re probably going with a place where it’ll be $500 for newborn, 6 month, 9 month, and 12 month. That includes a 5×7 of each shoot. It’s an extra $125 if I want all the shots on a CD.

@AutumnMrs:  Well, that one was from our newborn shoot with our photog, but here’s one I took with the new camera.

We bought the camera off our photographer actually. It was one of his old ones. I would absolutely choose a good camera over a newborn shoot–I take pictures every month and I certainly couldn’t afford to pay for them (and I take others all the time, too!)

Are you hiring Anne Geddes? If not, then I think you can find an amazing photographer that is much less than that. It seems like a huge scam to charge that much for prints.

I won’t post what I charge, because I charge a lot less than anyone in my area due to insecurities I have about my own work product.

I would say in my area, the sitting fee (no prints included) is around $300 with a print minimum of $300-$400.

It is hard to find a photographer that will give you a disc of images nowadays (I do, because I personally don’t like to limit the amount of photos I give if I’ve taken a handful of good ones).

So, I would say that what you were quoted is a lot more than I have ever heard of.  I would shop around a bit more.

That is completely excessive! Mine cost $200 for unlimited hours of shooting and 25ish poses in 4 different finishes each. I also get the digital copies so I can print and reproduce as I see fit. Granted, a friend of mine is the photographer but she said her normal fee is $299 so I only got $100 discount. Even for our wedding photographer who is much more expensive it was roughly $400-$500.

Check Facebook or local Craigslist, I’m sure there are lots of photogs who are just getting started or trying to build a portfolio that could take some great photos for a fair price.

Well it is a lot of money, but that is 4 sessions or $425 per session, which is high but not astronimcal.

What I think is crazy is the cost to buy the digitals.
