Sounds like a lot to me. I charge $250 for a newborn shoot or $1000 for maternity, newborn, 12 month and then 3/6/9 month mini sessions. That includes a disk of images for each. I will say, I charge less then most because I’m new and trying to build a client base. But anything above 300-400/shoot seems unnecessary to me.

I never have an issue paying for digital files.  You are paying the photographer for their work – for the revenue they lose everytime you print a picture or post it online without their watermark.

But that price seems outrageous – there is no way you’d print enough for them to make $3200 in profit from each sitting.  They are obviously trying to encourage you to buy prints through them, which is fine, but I’d worry about print prices, quality, and if they’ll force their logo on them.

That is completely insane for a price.  I go to photographer who you get a cd of the pictures he takes and you can do whatever you want.  Cost $125.00 and he is good.  Example, not newborn but of little boy’s 6 month shoot year ago in March.

@AutumnMrs:  Yeah that is one of my favorites, we did a 1 year shoot and I wanna do a 2 year shoot when the time comes. I should probably contact him and see if can get an apt set up.

@AutumnMrs:  My parents own a professional photo lab.  One of the best in the country.  I know how much that stuff costs wholesale.  Photographers deserve to be paid for their time putting together your order, meeting with you, doing any art if they do it themselves, etc.  They have to pay for their studio and equipment and health insurance, of course.  But yours thinks very highly of him/herself.  That’s a HUGE profit margin.  Like, insane.

Good luck finding someone more affordable.  🙂

    Holy crap.

My photographer charges $275 for newborn, or $500 for the “growing up” package (newborn, 4, 8, and 12 month) + DVD and print rights.

We skipped professional photography and bought a really nice camera instead.

$3200 is more than we paid for a full day of wedding photography in MA and we got a gorgeous album, two large prints and a DVD of all the images with full printing rights. I would never pay that much for a newborn session.

Where I live, there is one photographer who pretty well has a monopoly over the baby market..lol She’s awesome.

..however you’ll pay out the nose. For me it was worth it. We paid around $600. This was for a maternity/newborn shoot that included 2 large canvas prints, and like 20 other prints of my choice. No digitals, which sucked, but I can always go back and pay for them if I want to get them.

Her packages that include prints and digitals are like,, $1200+

Most of the better wedding photogs in Boston charge $350-500 for a 1-2 hour engagement shoot (our wedding photog was from Boston). What you want is basically 3 engagement shoots, so there’s about $1500. I wouldn’t be surprised if you priced out one of the higher end photogs. There are a million photographers in that area, though, so just shop around and see what you find!
