So, even though I’ve got a ton of time before my wedding, I’m going dress shopping for the first time next month. I’ve been wondering how common it is to find “the dress” during your first appointment. So, my question for you guys is….How many appointments did it take you to find “the dress”?

I found my dress online and knew it was the one; it was the first I tried on. I tried on four others, even one similar to the first one, but nope. The first dress I tried on, at my first and only appointment, was the one.

@TheWaitWasWorthIt: I found mine in a magazine and knew it was the one. I tried on similar things during my first appointment (they didn’t have the dress but carried the designer) and then promptly went home, found it used online and bought it.

my first appointment was jsut to try things on and see waht i liked/didnt like. My second was ok now i know what i like lets find it! I think thta was a great way to do it because my first appointment was no pressure.

I wish, well actually I don’t but I do wish it would have been a lot easier to find a dress. I ended up going to 8-9 bridal salons, in 4 towns (all but 1 over an hour away), and tried on 90 dresses before I found the one.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with finding the dress on the first appointment, because when you know you know, just stop looking after you find the one.

I kind of did. My first appointment was very impromptu. My mom was in town, saw the beautiful salon windows while we were walking down main street, and literally made me call and make an appointment right then (She squeezed us in like 30 minutes later). I was totally not planning on doing that lol. My second appointment was to meet with a designer she carries who was having a trunk show about creating a custom gown for me. That was my first real appointment (i.e. planned, I wore undergarments, etc). So I did find my dress the first time technically but I havent seen it yet in full since we designed it while we were there. But to be fair, I knew exactly what I wanted (which is why I went the custom route).

I bought my dress during my first appointment but I was not expecting to. My bridemaids are split between two states. I decided one day to just check out a few places and there it was. THE dress. My consultant talked me into the buying it right then and there, which I regret now since my mom and sister weren’t there. I am glad I got the dress I got but I feel like it would have still been there a couple weeks later.

Nope. I went dress shopping once. Then found a dress online and ordered it. Kind of risky, I know.

you should add a poll to this. Anyways, I wasn’t even planning on dress shopping when I found my dress. I went with a friend to pick her dress out and she forced me to try on dresses at the same time. I found the dress I liked and then a few months later bought the same one on ebay for about 600.00 cheaper. I think it’s important though to not put pressure on yourself to find the right dress on the first try. There isn’t anything that says that you need to find it right away. Take your time.

I found it on my first day of dress shopping, at the 2nd store we went too. But I went to another store 4 weeks later to try it on again, and see a few others. I had to think about it first before I bought it. Also the store I originally found it at…the manager/person who helped me was a major (pardon my language) but BITCH!! When I went to the other store 4 weeks later, I bought it from them instead. I wanted to give my buisness to a store that deserved it and was helpful and nice…not just cause they had the dress I wanted.

I found my dress even when I wasn’t planning to. My friends and I were in NYC for a weekend, and for fun I booked an appointment at Kleinfeld’s. I knew the engagement was coming soon so I wanted to have a bit of fun trying on dresses to see what my wedding style would be like. I told my friends not to let me get too carried away since there would be other opportunities to dress shop as I wasn’t even engaged yet but the sixth dress my consultant put on me was “the one.” It killed my checking account but was well worth it. My Boyfriend or Best Friend (now FI) was a bit surprised when we met up that later in the day.

I bought my dress at my first appointment but I really reget it. I should have backed off and thought about it a bit, and hunted around more. But my whole family was there and I came in intending to buy a dress, and that’s just what I did.
If you find your absolute dream dress, go for it. If you feel like your appointment has run too long and you start feeling pressured (either by yourself or by others), leave it and narrow down your searching based on what you did and didnt like about the dresses you saw. Anything that you see in a dress that you think “hey, I can look past that,” becomes a glaring issue later on. TRUST ME!

I found a dress that I loved and I almost bought it…but I had some slight hesitation, because I wanted to keep looking….so I went to a small salon with my mom and sister a couple weeks later and bought a dress that I tried on there

I found my dress the first day, at my second appointment. But I didn’t buy it until I went to one other salon and tried it on 3 times before I purchased it. I had no intention of finding the dress the first day, I was going in to get ideas of what I liked, but I did. I love my dress and can’t wait to wear it on my big day.

I found my dress on my second appointment but did not buy it because I still had over a year till the wedding. I decided to wait to see what new dresses came out and none caught my eye like my dress. I even tried on others but nothing felt like my dress. I purchased my dress when I reached a year till the wedding.
