I changed my email. Mine was also firstnamemaidenname so it didn’t make sense to keep using it. It was a mild pita to change everything over but I viewed it as a great chance to start over with no store spammy emails! I still have access to my old email so I know nothing important will be missed.

I changed it at work, but kept my personal email.  I miss my old name and am happy I get to at least see it in one last place!

I still use my personal email from 2010 with my maiden name in it. Hasn’t been weird or an inconvenience at all.

I changed my email since mine was the same format as yours with my maiden name. Gmail allows you to setup automatic forwarding, so even if people used my old email address, I got the email in my new inbox. I never really told people or made a fuss about it, I just always replied from the new address and eventually that’s what everyone used.

I just got married a month ago and am pretty sure I’m just gonna keep my old email in my maiden name. I did reserve a new email address in my married name in a burst of excitement after we got engaged lol, but now that we’re married, the thought of actually transferring everything over to it is just too boring. I did go into the settings on gmail and change my “profile” so it lists my married name, and updated my signature with my married name, but I have a hard time imagining I’ll ever switch to a new email.

I got a new email at work and synced my old work email to it. I also created a new personal email with my new name. I kept my old personal one and use it when I sign up for random accounts if I know I’ll be getting spam or ads.

I got a new personal email. I keep my old email for random junk sign ups and use my new email for serious stuff.

garnobella :  Yes, I set up a new personal email that’s first initial middle initial last name @gmail.com shortly after we got married. All of my old ones were either school emails or so immature sounding that there’s no way I’d use them for anything other than coupons. I deleted the oldest one to make things more manageable.

With forwarding, it’s really not a big deal at all. I have a commonly misspelled last name and an unusual first name. Over the years, I’ve made about a dozen gmail accounts that cover every possible misunderstanding/misspelling – ie. my name is not Jane Smith, but if it were my emails would be jane.smith, jayne.smyth, jen.smithe etc. They all forward to my main account, [email protected], and that’s the account I reply from. Cuts down on a lot of confusion! Just make a new account with your new name and set up your maiden account to forward into it. As you reply from your new account, it will update in people’s contacts.

my main email has my former initials in it; i still use it.  i have various accounts like google etc with my maiden name in the username.  not worth changing it for me.  When I was working, my work changed my email from firstinitialmaidenname to firstinitialnewname.  I have not changed any former personal accounts, but I do make new accounts with my new name as a username.

spontoise :  kind of a dick move to the people with those spellings for their actual name…

But yeah, I came here to say just create a new account that you give out to contacts moving forward, and just forward your old/current inbox to the new one and reply from the new one.

duchessgummybunns :  The other emails I locked up aren’t real names – they’re just common misspellings because I live in a country where both my first name and last name are foreign, but in different ways. Jayne Smith is not a good example… more like Jone Smeet. I am also the only person on Google with my first and last name spelled in any variation, so I’m not stepping on toes.
