Or did you go to an independent seamstress? It’s pretty crazy that I haven’t even bought my dress yet (picked it out last week but waiting next month for the trunk show to buy it) and I’m already apprehensive of that part of the dress journey.
My good friend’s wedding dress looked amazing and she went to a lady she’s known for years who has been her go to seamstress. She works out of her house. I am thinking of forgoing the place I’m gonna buy my dress from and going to her. I dunno.. So it made me wonder what you ladies did.
Did you regret where you did your alterations? Any tips for future brides?

No, I shopped around for a nice balance between great reviews and cheapest price :-). Saved a couple hundred bucks!

@Diamond84: I went to a different, very reputable/reliable place in town. Partly because I knew someone and got a discount, but also be the boutique I bought my dress at overcharged by a lot!

I’m not sure where I’m getting my alterations done, but it will not be where I bought my dress. They wouldn’t give me an estimate for alterations so I knew it would be a local seamstress!

I bought my dress from DB and am thinking of doing the same thing your friend did. There is a lady who works out of her house here in Dallas and I’ve read amazing review of her on here. I am just worried about what if she messes it up beyond repair or what if her house floods or something. Idk, my mind always thinks of the worst possible things… It makes me wonder if the salon messed it up beyond repair, if they would order me a new one to make things right.. you know? So, I guess I’ll have some questions to ask her before I schedule my appointment. I just don’t want to pay $500 at DB. Ugh, alterations aren’t a fun process.

@bmo88: How did you go about finding the place you got alterations? There are many tailors and seamstresses here in Dallas, but not many reviews and I dont know many people here to ask.

I am going elsewhere just b/c of logistics. If I was still in the same city I bought from dress from, I probably wouldve just done it there. However, I am not so I have to go somwhere else. As it turns out, I was just on yelp earlier going through reviews trying to pick a spot to take my dress to 🙂

@sheepandbear: Yea I hear ya. I’m getting my dress from a boutique with GREAT customer service thus far, but I don’t want that to change AFTER they are paid, you know? And on Yelp they basically have almost 5 stars and great reviews except for this one chic who put up pictures of the lining of her dress showing a “blotched” sewing job so that kinda freaked me out. It wasn’t that bad but she said they claimed it was done on a sewing machine which from the pic, it clearly wasn’t. The owner responded to her review though which made me feel a little better. But now I don’t know if I want to do my alterations there, even though I would get my dress from there.
