We just got a gift in the mail from a person I probably haven’t seen or spoken to in 15 years. He was in no way invited to our wedding, and I’m assuming the only way he even knew we were getting married is through Facebook. We went to elementary school together, but weren’t even close then. I feel almost uncomfortable accepting this!

@hartmamp: we’ve gotten gifts from friends of my grandmother that I’ve never even met!

I got one from my friend’s parents. They are really sweet though and knew that we couldn’t invite them because of space issues and friend’s parents were a can of worms we didn’t want to open.

Oh goodness! Awkward! But whatever, I know there are people I haven’t spoken to for years but am friends with on Facebook, and when I have seen that they are getting married I have been very happy for them, and considered sending a small gift or at least a card. Mine are more like three years than fifteen, but my point being that he is probably just thinking of you and is very happy for you, so you should accept the gift and send a thank you card and be done with the situation 🙂 He wouldn’t have sent it if he didn’t want you to have it/didn’t want to spend the money.
I haven’t received any that were that weird to me, but my Darling Husband did find it super strange that one of my mom’s co-workers sent us a gift. However, they work at my high school, so I actually knew her for my four years of high school, and she and my mom are very close, so I didn’t find it that weird. Plus, not complaining about receiving the awesome double-sided cooktop griddle that we wanted from Crate and Barrel 😉

I just wish he was close to SOMEONE I know so I wouldn’t feel so bad!

@hartmamp: Wow, that is super random! I agree with @loving_life:, that’s a great way to look at it. You probably made more of an impression on him than he did on you way back when. (I say this because sometimes I run into people who are really excited to see me and I don’t remember their names… I’m sure there are others I remember clearly who wouldn’t remember me very well.)
I still have 2 months, so no random gifts YET.

My dad’s boss! But my dad has worked for him for years so it wasn’t that random. Now I guess dad will have to get gifts for both of his boss’s kids when they get married this year!
