We split the wedding 3 ways. Both sets of parents split the cost of the reception. My husband and I paid for the everything else (DJ, photographer, flowers, centerpieces, decorations, invitations, etc.) All in all we ended up spending almost double what our parents shelled out for all of those expenses.
Anyway, my parents gave us a VERY generous and unexpected monetary gift with a card. My husband’s parents didn’t even give us a card. We were both kind of surprised. I was planning on saving all of the cards, especially ones with sweet messages (like the one from my parents).
I’m curious to see if you got cards and/or gifts. If you only got from one set of parents, please specify which set of parents.

My parents are not wealthy in the least. My first wedding I got gifts from my parents for both of my bridal showers, my bachlorette party, the morning of the wedding, a wedding present, AND a week later was Christmas where we got a lot of stuff that wasn’t bought off our registry. They also paid for the entire wedding. It was insane!

Some people aren’t into cards. My family is, his isn’t. We do birthday, Christmas, mother’s & father’s day, etc. cards. I got a gift from Future Mother-In-Law & Future Sister-In-Law together at my shower, and there wasn’t a card. For the wedding I talked to my fiance and said that I would really like a card from his parents, so I’m sure he’ll pass that on. It’s something I would really like to have as a keepsake. They won’t be offended that I mentioned it, I just don’t think they would have thought to get one.
My parents are paying for most of the wedding, and his also contributed. His parents will probably give a gift. My parents keep saying the wedding is our present, and I’m not expecting anything more, but knowing my parents they will probably give a present anyway.

My parents paid for our food along with other things such as guest book cake topper, ect. And his dad paid for the church fee. His mom made food and brought it (things such as peanut butters balls, chocolate covered pretzels, ect) & Also gave me my shoes. My parents bought us a nice vacuum cleaner and his mom bought us a beautiful vase along with other homey things. 🙂
