buggy09:  Most homeowner’s policies also have a very low limit on jewelry, even if it is stolen or lost at home. You need to get a rider for extra jewelry insurance.

buggy09:  Yes, we went through Jewelers Mutual and had a great experience. It’s super cheap, covers loss of stones, theft and “mysterious disappearance.”

Our rings have separate coverage.  As julies1949:  noted, most (if not all) homeowner’s policies will not cover expensive jewelry, and everything over a certain amount (say $1,000) requires a rider or separate policy.

Are there other companies than JM that Insure jewlery separately? My BFF had a terrible Experience with them.

My home owner’s insurance needed a copy of the appraisal for any piece of jewelry over $5k.

We have USAA too and added a Valuable Property rider onto our account.  I had a friend who had her home broken into and found out how little regular homeowner’s insurance covers jewelry.

Yes, we have a personal articles policy to cover all of my jewelry over $500, my fur, my husband’s watches, and his camera equipment.

We had USAA originally, but i wasnt too thrilled with how they described they would handle loss with my e ring (diamond/band).  They were saying they would replace it with like blah blah wouln’t straight answer me if i could use jeweler of my choosing etc.  We ended up going with Perfect Circle (jewelers mutual).  It is about 20k coverage between all our rings and it is 120 a year i believe. We still have our renters, car ins etc through USAA.

We also have perfect circle. We are in college and still renting so we don’t have a homeowners policy to add it to.

All of our insurance is through USAA- they are the best! Anyway, homeowners only covers a relativy small amount of your belongings insode the house. we purchased a sep policy on my ring so it will be covered no matter where the loss occurs, etc. My original in a different setting was appraised, but I just had it reappraised last August after having it reset in a WG baguette setting with bigger and cleaner diamonds. We are paying $800 per year for $56,000. If you haven’t had your diamond appraised within the last 3 years or so, you may want to have it done, as diamond values have gone up considerably.

Also, with my policy, the diamond will be replaced if damaged, chipped, scratched, etc. also covers theft, loss, etc.
