    Yes, and I regret it.

    Yes, and I love it.

No, and I wish I did.

No, but I love it now.

I had no preference, but I wish it was a different size.

I had no preference, and I love it.

Where I am from no one has big engagement rings. The ‘norm’ for anyone I know (not just my social circle) is 0.3-0.5 if I would have to estimate. My sister has a 0.6 and hers looks HUGE in comparison to anyone I had ever seen IRL. I know on the bee they show that 1 carat is average but I must reiterate that is SO not the case here where I am in Canada.  I had (secretly) hoped for a 0.75 diamond but honestly thought that was wishful thinking. When we were picking out the setting together the lady at the store actually asked me if I would be dissapointed with anything less than a full carat. I thought ‘lady, you are crazy if you think he’s going to be putting any diamond close to that size in this ring’. Turns out he got me a 1.01. I love it. Not saying I wouldn’t also love bigger but this is more than I ever expected/hoped for.

@dewingedpixie:  neighbors! I can def believe that in a conservative environment. I was referring to my job I left last year, television station (one of the biggies) and some of my colleague’s rings were known to have blinded a camera man or two lol

I have a large-ish finger (8.5) and the “finger coverage” chart says my ideal stone would be about 1.5ct. I could’t imagine anyone ever spendnig that kind of money on me and so always dreamt of a 1ct. I figured I’d still get good finger coverage if I got a .7-1.0 with a halo around it.

But then Fiance and I decided to get a canary diamond, so I wasn’t sure even that woud be in our budget. And then Fiance decided he really like the solitaire look. Oy. So much for finger coverage. lol

I asked Fiance that, if the budget allowed, to try for no smaller than 1 ct. We also decided to purposely get a stone that was cut on the shallow side, because the setting we liked was already high, so it would show larger face-up. Truthfully, I was ready to love anything. I just wanted my man!

We did a lot of shopping, found two jewellers who buy direct from the diamond exchange, and played them off each other to get the best price. We ended up with an amazing 1.48 fancy yellow oval UNDER our budget! It measures 7.3×9.7mm – so face up about 2ct! I never dreamt of a stone so gorgeous. And Fiance is SO proud. It’s adorable. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve always been more interested in intricate antique or antique reproduction settings than in size.

And my fiancé was obsessed with stone quality.

My stone falls within the .5 -.75 range I wanted… And it’s D color, very high quality, so he’s happy too. But most importantly, it’s in a kicka** antique repro JC Blackburn setting!! ๐Ÿ˜€

I wanted a 0.75-0.9ct stone and ended up getting a 1.5ct. I think it’s a bit big for my fingers so I’m definitely considering downgrading.

@MrsYoshida:  I have a metal obsession also! I got a 1 carat on a 2mm band and just wasn’t happy – I put it on a 4mm band so that now I have sparkle AND shine and I’m a very happy camper!

I proposed to my man so I went out myelf to look for my engagement ring after he said yes ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ This was perfect because I really wanted to pick out my own ring. Even though I never wore rings, I knew I wanted something large and vintage. I didn’t want to spend too much money though, while still having quality stones. I ended up finding the PERFECT ring!!! The center stone is 0.33 ct, and the ctw is 0.75. The span of the basket is 10mm, which gives me the finger coverage I wanted, and the double halo is a vintage design.

I had no idea what size I wanted and just told him not to make it tiny and left it at that.  He surprised me with this… a 1+ ct diamond center in a halo setting. Perfect!

@wrkbrk:  Always happy to post my sunshine!

On my hand – to show coverage.

From the side to show how high it is.

And a third that just really shows that sunshine colour!
