I got exactly what I wanted and I love it so much!

He blew me away with how much research he did and he got me the most AMAZING ring. He told me that he wanted to get me the ring of my dreams because he wanted me to love the ring I’d be wearing for the rest of my life and he knows I have no desire to upgrade later.

I had shown my Fiance pictures of rings I liked over the course of our relationship with round diamond in a halo being my number one. I also told him I also like pear and oval to give him other options as I knew round were also the most expensive cut for diamonds. I didn’t know when he would actually propose but I knew we’d one day be engaged as he is the love of my life. We never went ring shopping together and I had never even tried rings on alone shopping on my own for fun.

    Well…

He knocked it out of the park! I remember after he proposed and I was sitting there I kept asking “is this really real?!” I was in such shock: I couldn’t believe my dream man had just asked me to marry him and given me my absolute dream ring!

Yes and no. I had originally wanted a delicate ring (quarter to half carat) with tiny side, possible blu stones like in my previous thread, but ended up with a delicate (0.15 ct) solitaire due to budget reasons and love it just as much.

We looked together. He found the setting for our inspiration and we did the custom route to refine the shank details, center and accent stones, and metal type. The CADS got sent to me and we’d approve them together.

So, yep, I got what I wanted and I love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

We spent hours talking about what I wanted yet he refused to have me involved in the process and I think he was so stupid for that. The jeweller took 3 months and ended up screwing up the job and then he had the stone set somewhere else in a very rushed manner… He also wanted to get away for very cheap.

I got a cushion cut moissy in rose gold, just like I asked for months, but until I got it, I have changed my mind into blue sapphire and still can’t stop thinking about it. After the jeweller screwed up the ring we went ring browsing and I actually tried on things and I just fell in love with sapphire, but that ship has sailed.

I love the color of the gold, very inbetween yellow and rose gold, suits my skin perfectly.

But I am extremely picky about the setting, and I think mine is so off the shelf and basic Easter European, I would basically swap the setting for anything on the Blue Nile or anything on the American online ring sellers catalogue… I feel like some of my wishes were taken into consideration like it being solitaire (financially wise decision for now), low set and being reverse tappered just a little bit, but I don’t love the profile.

I am plotting to get it reset into three stone with sapphire sidestones for an anniversary and have it my own way eventually! I already asked him if this would be good idea, and he said yes, so I can’t wait!

1cat :  I prefer the ring you got!

I really wanted a pear and I still yearn after them, but we didn’t find one when we went shopping after our engagement. I really love my ring because it’s different with lots of nice elements to it. Yours is also unusual and I find that is a big plus. I’ll get a pear for a right hand ring one day, so it’s fine. Your feelings are totally normal. If you start googling and pinning rings, well, there are about 20 different kinds that I’d happily take!

I definitely got the ring I wanted, because we worked on it together – from start to finish. ๐Ÿ™‚ My DH didn’t really have any preferences as to what shape of stone or setting he wanted the e-ring to be. The important thing to him was that I love my ring! He knew nothing about diamonds/jewelry in general going into the purchase, but he was a super sweetheart and worked with me every step of the way, from learning about different cuts of stones to different shapes of stones to deciding on our custom setting. It was definitely a 100% joint venture. I can now confidently say he knows much, much more about diamonds than most sales associates at the mall stores, haha! tongue-out The initial setting I wanted was a solitaire, which was the setting my DH proposed with. But then, the whimsical side of me took over and I decided (after having seen many beautiful petite halos) I wanted a petite halo instead. Long story short, I ended up getting both settings I wanted. I have the solitaire setting tucked away safely, so that I can put something else into it in the future!

We talked about the ring and what we could afford.  But, once I started looking at actual rings it started sinking in I could not have what I wanted.  My Fiance was not crazy about colored gems when I brought it up.  I even talked to him about wearing just a plain band but he didn’t like that at all.  I talked to many jewelers and jewelery brokers.  Then one day at the mall I saw a clear sapphire for  the first time in my life in person.  That was the stone I would get.  It allowed me to get the cut, shape and size I wanted.  And it was white which was important to my Fiance.

So, I didn’t know I wanted a white sapphire.  But, once I saw it my mind was made up.  I did have to get a solitare setting made.  I wanted to have it ultra plain with a real thick band.  So, yes…  I did end up with what I wanted.

Not really, but I’m glad! I mentioned to him once that I liked halos but I didn’t got into too much detail, in my head I envisioned something very Art Deco but I never really gave it too much thought. When he proposed (completely unexpected) he surprised me with a Tiffany soleste which I’m in LOVE with, I never thought I could have something so pretty! So it turned out to be so much better than I expected:)
