yup. i got everything i asked for. i didn’t ask for anything big, but i’d asked for some specific things- an ikea gift card (i need a new desk), an amazon gift card (i got two- i’m gonna buy a bunch of books), a ring holder for my nightstand, and a hummingbird charm for my charm bracelet.

i’m sorry you didn’t get what you really wanted! i’m sure the RHR is gorgeous, though (:

I really wanted a tablet, nothin to fancy just a basic one. My grandma was going to get  one for me but then I got a flat tire and finally admitted that they all needed to be replaced so she got those for me instead. I’m really grateful but they weren’t what I wanted. So I gave up on the idea of my tablet this year because I didn’t feel comfotatble asking anyone else for one. However FI is awesome and got me my tablet 🙂 So I got new tires and a tablet!

@asianyoushi:  🙂  DH did an amazing job becasue he put so much thought into  my gifts. I didnt really want anything in particular and somehow I loved everything he got me. We kept the budget pretty low since we are going to splurge on a king size bed in January (our real Christmas gift!)

All I wanted was to be home with my family, so it was perfect!

I got the major things I asked for, as well as some lovely surprises!

Funnily enough, I didn’t receive the smaller/less-expensive items on my list, which I had assumed people would get me. People chose to be far more generous in their giving than I had anticipated, which was such an incredible surprise!

So I’ll be buying my own scarf/nail polish/foam rollers this year 😉

I did and I was surprised. Today I got an iPad air to replace my old iPad and we bought a bigger TV for our living room! I’m ecstatic!

@asianyoushi:  YES!! And it came about quite sweetly actually.

In November FI asked me for some ideas again (as he had also asked me in the beginning of October and I said I would have to think a little bit)….so I told him a couple of ideas (season 9 of Grey’s Anatomy, pearl earrings to match the pearl necklace he’d gotten me the year before, etc. Just smaller random things) and then went to him the next day after thinking some more and brought up another idea. I said instead of getting me a birthday (12/18), Christmas and anniversary (1/22) gift this year (maybe just do dinner together instead) since he had just started a new job after being laid off as an independent contractor and not getting any unemployment, maybe he could get me the second wedding band I wanted and we could just spend quality time together those dates. I like things to look “even” and he had said back when we picked out the ring that he would for our first year anniversary of being married. We have a credit line through the jewelers and we would be able to pay it off before the interest tacked onto it so I wouldn’t mind doing that. At first he wasn’t real keen on that idea, so I told him to just think about it and it was up to him. I had gotten a few small things for him before he got laid off (I paid all the rent which is $1200 a month, and bills while he was laid off for about 3 months) so Christmas morning he opened those and looked at me and said “I thought we weren’t getting gifts this year because we decided to do a bigger wedding gift” (we had also discussed that but he didn’t get back to me so I wasn’t positive)….so I told him that. He goes “I have been thinking and I know it means a lot to you to have your ring look “even” and I would like to just do the other wedding band for the birthday and holiday gifts this year……but you won’t get to wear it until the wedding day.” I smiled and gave him a huge hug. This was exactly what I wanted….I can buy the other things myself 🙂 I’m sooooooooooo happy!!!

We went to dinner on my birthday, spent Christmas eve (went out to dinner too) and day together (he made his chili per my request) and will be spending our anniversary together as well 🙂 We also got to go to my grandma’s for our huge family Christmas on the 14th and his family is this coming weekend! Simple but perfect.

Yes, it was a wonderful Christmas.

We trimmed the tree and watched Christmas movies together and played video games together and ate and drank and ate and drank some more, and everyone had a genuinely good time, no drama at all. It was really a great Christmas, exactly what I hoped for. I’m so excited for New Year’s 🙂

@asianyoushi:  Yes! I got what I wanted and beyond, but it was also because I was very direct about what I wanted. I told him I wanted a vacation.

What I got: four nights, five days in Puerto Penasco, Mexico- and he bought me a season pass to a ski resort that I’ve been very vocal about wanting!

I have been in your shoes for many, many, many Christmases about never getting things that I want. I grew up very very poor; $50 total budget for each of us children if we were lucky. It has gotten to the point in adulthood that my joy of Christmas is meticulously picking out presents for family, or making elaborate cookies/jams knowing that other people will be thrilled because of something I did. I am giving other people the joy of a gift they want, and it makes me happy to have a loved one have that joy, because it’s better than no one.

I have developed a sense for every birthday and Christmas, that I will never get anything I want. So, if I get something I like, it makes it 10x better and I appreciate it a lot more.

(So I buy things for myself throughout the year that make me happy. It makes it easier.)

I didn’t get anything I asked for, but everything I got was better than things I’d asked for.

I asked for a Sonicare Air Flosser & a Clarisonic.

I got a lovely coat, matching flats & an suv.

FI actually got me a new laptop for wedding planning! I was so shocked and happy. I have an old Macbook but it takes about 5 minutes to open excel and I think, after our initial guest list project, he was completely all set on waiting that long to do anything hahaha. I had a great time with my family and got a beautiful vanity table/mirror/chair for my dressing room that was a complete surprise as well! I hope all you bees had a great holiday!
