Well, I didn’t know how to answer your poll at all!! LOL, I thought he might propose on a long weekend trip that we took in July and he didn’t. I knew it was iffy at that time, but thought it might still happen.

Then, I was convinced it would happen on our 2 year anniversary. However as the night unfolded, I had convinced myself that it woudn’t because he said he’d never propose at a restaurant. So, while I’d originally thought it would happen that night, he still completely surprised me once it did happen. Haha!

And, he told me after he proposed that he’d had the ring the entire time when we were on vacation earlier!! He just couldn’t find the right moment. Bwhaha! I guess I have pretty good intuition. tongue-out

I wanted him to do it on our trip to Mount Rushmore, but he didn’t. I didn’t think he would though cause I knew he didn’t have his crap together yet. But he proposed about a month later on a random weekday date night he planned. He never plans anything so I knew it was going to happen.

I just got engaged a week ago! I guessed correctly that he was going to do it on our 10 day vacation in the mountains, yet he still managed to surprise the crap out of me in the most amazing way!

The short version is that he had my super talented sister paint a portrait of us (him as Superman, and me as Wonder Woman because he loves superhero stuff) with “Will you marry me” written in stars above it. He had that custom framed, and a photo of it turned into a puzzle (because I LOVE puzzles), and handmade a box that said “Mystery Puzzle” on the top and made it look super old which he had shrink wrapped with the puzzle inside. Then he was in contact with a lady who owned a really neat shop in the mountain town, who he met secretly one morning and gave the box to, and she placed it behind glass behind the counter in her store. Then I fell for it HOOK LINE & SINKER when we went shopping and she told me this old man makes these boxes and he only brings in a few at a time and people in town come in and buy them, etc. Like, I wanted this box. I needed this box. And my bf/fiance goes “do you want it?” hehe

So he bought it, we went back to the hotel and I started assembling the puzzle all excited and low and behold, I seee my name in the stars with the proposal underneath and that’s when he got down on one knee! I really still don’t know how he pulled that all off!

A few things happened along the way to make me figure out he was in the process of purchasing a ring — he asked me if we could go get my ring size together… and the kicker… I was in the car when he mistakingly took a phone call about setting up an appointment to look at diamonds (he freaked out and made me close my ears, LOL)… so, I had an idea it was happening soon.

All of that happened at the end of the summer last year and then I was just kind of waiting throughout the end of the year. His grandfather came up to visit for the holidays and I thought he probably would want to do it while he was here. So, pretty much every big event I was “on guard” thinking it might happen.

He asked me to go to the beach on a random weekend in December when it was unusually hot here in New Jersey and I kind of had an idea he would do it there. He always told me the place he would do it would mean something to the both of us… and we both grew up at the shore. And I was right – he did it that weekend in December on the beach. It was actually like 80 degrees which was uncanny! Crazy memorable day to get engaged. πŸ™‚

I don’t feel bad that I kind of knew it was going to happen. I was still super shocked, emotional and excited! You can never even really imagine what that moment is going to feel like and what they’ll say so regardless, it’s just the best moment ever. πŸ™‚

bulma :  My husband is a serious blabbermouth and cannot keep in a secret to save his life. He’s also extremely sutble (note the sarcasm). He proposed right after a fancy dinner back at the hotel, but during the day, he’d say things like “Your dad isn’t answering his phone. Do you know what he’s doing? Is he with your mom? Does she have her phone?” and then telling me he “needed to go get some water” and be gone for, like, 45 minutes, only to return without water and smiling. He also insisted that we get a picture at the restaurant we went to dinner at because it was a “special” day and that we get back to the hotel before the sunset.  Like, we didn’t get ice cream after dinner because he really really really wanted to get back to the hotel.  I’m no idiot so I just played it off because I know it would sadden him if I outright told him I knew what was coming.

He proposed on the balcony at sunset after dinner.  Poor thing was shaking he was so nervous πŸ™‚

We hugged and kissed and I jumped around the hotel for a minute until he (legit) said, “So… is that a yes?”

bulma :  haha, yes! He’s always been like that and I didn’t want to ruin it for him πŸ™‚  When we found out I was pregnant, he practically exploded with the secret. Besides family, I had told exactly 2 people before we made the official announcement.  He had told “only 10 or so people accidentally” (true words).

bulma :  Thanks so much! The waiting game itself should be fun, it’s such an exciting time — just enjoy the thrill! Here are some pics! I just saw you asked for some in your original post. πŸ™‚

bulma :  Thank you! Either way, I hope you enjoy the trip πŸ™‚ That was the attitude that I went in with, and honestly, if where you’re staying is as amazing as where we did in Jamaica, you’ll have no problem keeping your mind off of a proposal! lol

Hey bulma, I remember we had a whiney little chat on some board not so long ago about waiting lol. My boy finally asked! As I said before, he was supposed to propose on our trip this July (hints from him and was just the perfect time), the ring was ready right before the trip but it had flaws according to him so he decided not to propose with it and returned it. He only told this to me 1-2 weeks after the trip. I was obviously very upset at the end of the trip and later when he told me about the situation, but as the days passed I stopped thinking about it altogether. Thinking it would be another 2-3 months for a new ring to be made, I just decided to stop being obsessed about it for once… Well! He had a ring made super fast in secret and proposed on our day trip to Cinque Terre in Italy on 20th of August, I really didn’t see it coming, lol!!!

I completely blacked out when I realised it was happening. All of the whining and waiting and expecting – whatever you name it – still doesn’t prepare you for that euphoria, I suppose.

Here’s a pic of the location (he proposed during a hike in a beautiful path, but fingers were swollen so much, I don’t have a decent picture in the very spot he asked, the pic is 2 hours after) and the ring just for fun!
