If I did, I probably wouldn’t be with my Darling Husband, but I bet my ex-husband would fit it to a t. People are so much more than an assemblage of features.

Just for the record  I was like 14 when I made this list, and I started dating Fiance at 16 so I never really revised it but here goes:

    1. Shorter last name than mine (10 letters or less)
    2. Taller than me (>5’3.5)
    3. Older than my younger brother and younger than my older brother (2 years older or younger than me)

Fiance only fit into the last one by 11 days lol.

I decided on my absolutes before I seperated from my then-husband.

    1. be nice
    2. good at sex
    3. make me laugh
    4. include me in his life

My darling Fiance meets all of these.

@cath3114:  I think accepting your daughter and the love and all is good, but honestly, I don’t really buy into the college degree thing. One of my close friends has that as a requirement as well, so I’ve thought about this a lot. I have a PhD, but I honestly believe college is not for everyone and that some people, no matter how intelligent, are not supposed to go to college. This is precisely one of the features my extrememly educated ex-husband has (a BA with high honors and 3 different masters degress), but he’s an ass and not worth the air he breathes. Darling Husband, however, realized pretty quickly that college wasn’t for him and never finished. He’s still well-read and really smart, and despite my 11 years of higher ed, he may very well end up making more money than me at the height of his career in grocery than I will ever make as a professor.

any “absolutes” I have are character/personality wise.

    • Hard-working
    • honest
    • trusting
    • respectful
    • we make each other laugh
    • supportive
    • socialable

my Boyfriend or Best Friend was a smoker but quit.  religion, age, education level – that’s minutia for me.

Hmm, I’ve actually never thought about this because I’ve never actively looked for someone to date, but just always happened to fall for someone I was already good friends with. However, I know I would never have dated anyone who smokes, doesn’t like animals, or is extremely religious/conservative.

No, but when I think of what would be on my list, I think of my fiancé’s qualities. 🙂

Mine has changed a lot over the years and when I stopped being fixated on the superficial, I ended up with a fantastic man. The only “requirements” I had were smart, kind, funny/witty, responsible and caring.  He’s all of those- and then some!
