I’ve been pretty MIA on here. But I was hoping someone could answer a quick question. I have around 122 guests (so far fingers crossed….I’m still tracking down a few more guests) but my cake serves 112. My baker can can another 50 slices for $100, but I would rather not spend that extra money if not needed. So my question is do you think it’s ok to be 10 slices short? Is that too cheap? I know at my brothers wedding everyone was dancing so much that no one ate much cake.

I think you will be fine with what you have. Not everybody will eat the cake. My Aunt had a whole rubbermaid tote full of cake left over at the end of her wedding. I’m sure my Aunt’s case might be the extreme, but there has been leftover cake at almost every wedding I’ve been to.

@Mrs. Excited: Why don’t you have a small sheet cake made?

I think it could go either way. We had no cake left and we over bought by 15 pieces. We also had a candy buffet and milk and cookies. And we had 5 courses. Our guests were pigs LOL.

We had 132 guests and we only ordered enough cake for 96 slices. We had a huge dessert buffet with dinner, in addition to wedding cake, however. We probably still had about 20 slices left, but they got devoured the next day at another family gathering.

I wanted to add that maybe you could suggest to your bakery that a small sheet cake be made in addition b/c I’d be afraid you’d run out of pieces.

@Mrs. Excited: Great question!! I was wondering how much cake to buy too!

I know that a lot of my relatives wouldn’t eat the cake so it wouldn’t be a big deal. However, as a somewhat picky eater with stomach issues, I can tell you that a large slice of cake has more than once been my dinner at weddings where the food didn’t sit well with me, so I would say it’s better to have too much than too little. I also agree with getting a small sheet cake on the side, you may not even need it but just in case.

On the flip side… is there ever such a thing as Too Much Cake?
…well, maybe. Agreed on PP suggestions about asking about a smaller cake, or just going as-is. You’re also likely to have noshows among your Yeses (I hope not, but that seems to be the case for every wedding I’ve been to).

Thank you all for your suggestions! Do you all have any tips on people that haven’t RSVP’d? I have 14 in state that I cannot get ahold of and then I have like 30 out of state that I’m assuming their not coming since I they didn’t RSVP and they didn’t respond via email either.
I can’t believe your guest ate that much! I’m starting to get scared our venue won’t have enough food! Yikes!
good point you can’t have enough cake, but our venue won’t allow us to take any food home with us and that includes the cake…..I thought that was weird! Plus I found out I’m allergic to most foods and now I can’t eat my own wedding cake, and I LOVE CAKE so less cake is less tempations for me!
I hope I don’t have too many no shows….I have had the hardest time getting people to respond!

Honestly I think you will be fine. I work as a cook at a place that holds wedding venues, and I can think of mabey 2 weddings in recent memory (I have been there for 2 weeks) that did not have quite enough cake and even then no one complained that they did not get a peice. Especially if your venue does not allow you to take food home, ( like ours does that too), the cooks and servers most likely get some of your paid for food ( the extras) , so if you do not want that I would say you are good with the amount you have.
I hope that was not too convoulted of a responce!:)

we had SO MUCH cake left it was ridiculous. we took it home, sent some home with family, had it around the house for out of town guests for like 3 days. idk what happened to it all after we left for our honeymoon. but we had so much left over. so i think you will be fine with just enough. not everyone eats it no matter what the baker says.

We had a small amount of cake left over and we bought right on for our guests (120), but I did suppliment with pies as Darling Husband and some of his family doesn’t like cake.
