Absolutely. We hired an excellent DJ.  Our guests didn’t leave the dance floor!

I am having a live 1950s band. Complete with two female back up singers! It’s costing us a lot of $$ ($2500 😐 ) But I feel like it’s 100% worth it.

For our ceremony my friend will be singing live.

We also have other interactive things which I would consider to be entertainment:

-A 1940s paper moon photobooth with props

-A kids table with activity books and candy

-Disposable cameras on each table with “eye-spy” game cards

-Sparklers for our exit

I’ve even considered hiring MORE entertainers but Ican’t think of anything lol

I really feel like entertainment is huge at a wedding. I used to be an entertainer so I feel like there is nothing worse than a dull reception.

We had a DJ.  It was a standard formal wedding.

Just posting here to see what other things people do at weddings.  Personally, I don’t think you need a whole heck of a lot of entertainment as long as the people you invite are cool and you encourage people to have a good time.

We had a really awesome Jazz band!! Best money I’ve spent as far as the wedding is concerned….we also had a flute and harp duo at the ceremony. Nothing beats live music.

We also had an MC who was supposed to keep things interesting but he was a flop when it came down to it, made me extra grateful for the Jazz band.

@MissLilly:  oh god there is NOTHING worth than a bad or cheesy MC.

We are having a DJ that comes highly recommended, a photo/video booth, a “games” area (no kids, adults – Wii Sports and Jenga), and a lounge area.

As someone who doesn’t like dancing at weddings (although I think I will like dancing at my own since I will know everyone), I really wanted to have entertainment that would be enjoyable for those who are not dancers.

DJ and dancing of course, and we are also getting a photobooth. We have some spare smaller rooms at the venue we may also make it into a kids activity/movie room.

@bretonvirgniia:  Thanks. Fiance built a “giant jenga” set (it’s on carpet and there is room around it), so that’s especially cool that we made it. We also considered having a game like Apples to Apples in the lounge area, which is right next to the games, but decided we had enough as it was.

Since you don’t usually see a games area at an indoor “traditional” reception, we are making menu and entertainment cards that will go at each place setting and explain all the options of what people can do for the evening. Some people think games at a wedding are cheesy or juvenile or “carnival-like,” but I would LOVE it as a guest!!! So we’re doing it!

We are doing a somewhat smaller dance floor to account for the fact that people will also be off doing other things. I’d rather have a smaller dance floor anyway… I hate those big bare dance floors, feel so awkward on them. When people are dancing I like it a little more tightly packed anyway.

I’m commenting for future reference!

@NAvery:  Omg your wedding sounds like it will be maddd fun! I’m starting to consider having games at my reception because it will be a small group of people we are very close to, and that’s what we always do when we gather with them…PLAY! Lol I’m inspired.
