Well the real answer is because I’d seen other brides’ photos of getting ready, it’s sort of traditional, and the photographer offered it as part of her normal service. But I do like the look of those photos, it sort of captures the romance and excitement of the day. But, I didn’t do photos half dressed or anything, just my personal choice.

For me, it is one of the most important parts of the wedding photography. Thats when most brides have their “detail” shots taken. The earrings, the invites, the engagement ring, the wedding bands and your hair and makeup. All those things you worked so hard on.  All the things that you wont remember down the road. And what about the shot of JUST your dress by itself. Its something so intimate and special to me. Your last moments being a single woman. No way I would ever pass that up.

Its one of my favorite parts of the day to shoot. The emotion when the dress goes on is awesome. Parents get their first look at their baby all grown up. It’s magical!

I didn’t have my photographer come because it was just too expensive to add more time to the package that was already at the top of our budget.  One of my bridesmaids is a professional photographer though, so when she came to town a few days before she did a details photoshoot with all my stuff, and took a few of us getting ready.  i did the same for her when I was HER Maid/Matron of Honor… but I think I got the better deal, since my photog skill are 0.

I did as it was included in the package. I didn’t think too much of it but some of my favorite pics are from the getting ready….especially my husbands shots!  It was great to see what everyone was doing the morning of not to mention all the candid shots our photographers got.

I love looking at others’ getting ready shots. There is something so intimate and exciting about it. If time doesn’t allow for it, I can understand cutting it, but if you have enough time in your photography package, I would for sure get it done.

Our photography package included all day coverage so of course I wanted some getting ready shots. I wanted to capture all the moments from beginning to end.

I get why you aren’t leaning towards it. Likely these WONT be the pictures you frame and hang somewhere. But I like them…they’re the ones that show us not AS prettied up, and was fun because that’s when the photog took all the pics of details (shoes, jewelry, dresses…etc)

We did, only because we had the photographer for so long..but they’re some of my favorites!

@Barika: That shot of you looking in the mirror is just beautiful.

I honestly didn’t think too much of the “getting ready” aspect, though I’ve always admired those photos from other brides’ shoots. I did, however, know our photographer would capture some of those moments regardless. It turned out to be very fun to shoot some of the breathless / my bridesmaids fussing over me / putting my dress on / ohmygoodness-I-can’t-believe-I’m-getting-married!!! moments. =]

^ Of course, this is how the guys ‘got ready,’ haha. My husband said they were all dressed within 15 minutes, and even stopped into a bar for awhile for lunch and beers.

I think the getting ready shots are so fun!

THey are the excitement and the prep and I think just as much a part of the day as the first look and your bridal portraits & etc!  I love the candid photos and “fly on the wall” views because it brings you back to every step-by-step part of the day.

Here are some of mine…

My dress and shoes and necklace without meee:

I gave my girls these robes as their gift so we got a photo:

Theres a few of me opening my gift from Darling Husband…

After I opened my bridal gift, telling my flower girl all about Tiffany’s (hehe)

I got in my dress and had all the girls around as my mom came to zip me up:

her zipping it up (love my little flower girl’s face here! lol)

Me praying that my mom doesn’t break the hook-and-eye without her glasses! (lol!)

Then one of my MOH’s tied my sash and the perfect bow (I also like how my 13yo Jr Bridesmaid or Best Man niece is looking at me from the couch lol) :

Then when I put on my pièce de résistance... my bolero! lol

Then my other Maid/Matron of Honor helped button me up:

Then she had a laugh attack… I forget why but I love this shot of her!

I had my hair done at a salon, and DIY’ed my make up before the cameras got there so I touched up my lip before our first look:

And that’s just a few!

There were many more and I LOVE the ones where brides are getting their hair done and putting their garter on and etc but my day wasn’t that calm. lol

I definitely think its awesome to see the transformation and giddiness of a bride on her wedding day so if you have time, definitely do them!

Yay! You’re welcome! They don’t take super long, esp if you have everything ready to go so I hope you can fit them in!

I loved all the details shots, from getting ready with the girls in our robes, to the shots of my shoes, dress by itself, to the shots of me looking in the mirror. Love all these!
