unicornphish: we are getting married in June and are doing a mini-moon getaway for 4 days in Maine (where we are also getting married). We want to do a larger trip, to Europe or to a warmer country but we need to save up for it. We could only handle one financial project at a time!

I get married four weeks tomorrow! We are going for a 3 night minimoon to Budapest straight after the wedding but due to school holidays, I have to be back at work a week later. Then once the summer holidays come around in August we are going on a kick-ass honeymoon for 10 days to Sri Lanka 🙂

unicornphish:  We got married in September, and didn’t go on our honeymoon until June, for a variety of reasons (wanted to go to a specific world event, gave us an opportunity to save $$, and needed the new year to reset our vacation time).

We still told people it was our honeymoon, and got the congratulations – and congratulatory champagne! – so for us it felt like a “honeymoon”

We had a short trip to the coast 2 hrs away the day after the wedding for 2 nights, but our big honeymoon is in July to Europe. Im happy with it! It would have been nice to get away for longer, but I can’t wait for July and our big honeymoon!

I think we got the best of both worlds. We did a mini-moon right after the wedding and the big honeymoon two months later.

Our wedding was a Sunday (Labor Day weekend) and we flew out on Monday for my grandmother’s condo in Florida. We lazed around at the pool and beach and ate lots of yummy food. We did one day trip but kept it all pretty low key, which was perfect. It let us bask in the wedding glow and recover from the craziness and lack of sleep leading up to the wedding and it was super cheap (flew on miles and no hotel/car).

Then two months later we had our big 3.5 week honeymoon to Kenya and Malawi. It was absolutely the trip of a lifetime and the perfect honeymoon location. But I think we might have died of exhaustion, had we tried to do that right after the wedding. Two months seemed to be enough time to recover from the wedding and get excited for the honeymoon (I think it helped ward off post-wedding-blues) but still close enough to the wedding that it really felt like a honeymoon.

If I could do it all again, I’d probably do the exact same thing! Except leave a little later in the day for the mini-moon because we were pretty rushed. I think delayed honeymoons have a lot of benefits, so I often recommend them!

unicornphish:  We got married in mid-October and went on our honeymoon at the end of January, so about 3 1/2 months after the wedding.  I actually preferred to delay the honeymoon a bit so we could recover from the wedding, and we wanted to wait until the hustle and bustle of the holidays were over.  We saved on airfare that way too!

I couldn’t imagine leaving for the honeymoon the day after the wedding.  We were exhausted and our flight ended up being super early in the morning.  The extra time gave us a chance to save up a little more spending money, and it gave us something else look forward to afterwards.

We’re going on our Moorea & Bora Bora honeymoon 3 weeks after our wedding. It will be 10 yrs we’ve been together and we always said will try to have a baby right after we get married. So we didn’t want to delay it too long 🙂

unicornphish:  I always thought a honeymoon shortly after the wedding was romantic, and it’s what I thought I wanted. In hindsight, it would have been better to wait. Darling Husband and I took our exotic honeymoon 2 days after our wedding. The wedding planning was stressful enough that I could have used some more time to decompress afterwards. It was stressful to plan our honeymoon on top of planning the wedding.

Also, I had severe wedding withdrawal so having a honeymoon to look forward to would have helped me imensely (instead of wedding then honeymoon back-to-back). So I say good for you for having some time in between!!

unicornphish:  we got married on a Saturday and left at the crack of dawn the following Tuesday (only because it was significantly less air miles than flying out on Monday otherwise we would have gone sooner). I’ll be honest, I don’t get the point of “mini-moons”. I feel like it is telling the first vacation that it’s not good enough for you lol. Plus sometimes life gets in the way and then the “real” honeymoon doesn’t happen (like my friend that got knocked up on her mini-moon). I plan on taking bigger fancier vacations with my husband over the course of our lives, but our honeymoon was low key and very special because of the company not the location. Just my view of it all though…

We left for the honeymoon the following day. We didn’t take a morning flight though so we could sleep in ;).

We’re getting married halfway through our honeymoon, so I chose the less than a week option…

We did a mini-moon right after the wedding. It was nice to relax and recharge. Darling Husband had two weeks off after the wedding and I had the summer off (I teach). We did this because we paid for the wedding ourselves and wanted to save up some before the big trip.

We’re taking our big honeymoon this June (on our one year anniversary). It feels like a honeymoon to us, but every trip we’ve taken together since being married has felt like a honeymoon. I also liked that it gave us something to look forward too plus we’re getting the full anniversary package from the resort.

We got married in early January and are leaving on our honeymoon in a week, so about 2,5 months after our wedding. We decided that we didn’t want to go on honeymoon straight after our wedding, as we didn’t want yet another thing to plan and pay for at the same time. This allowed us to spread the costs a bit more and by timing it with Easter, it meant that we could squeeze in a visit with my inlaws without having to spend extra vacation time to go see them.

It’s definitely our honeymoon though, and now that we’ve been back to work for a few months after the wedding, we’re ready for our honeymoon, rather than having it be something tacked on right after our wedding. We had a few days off work after our wedding to relax and bask in the newly married glow, which were wonderful. After the excitement of getting married, we needed something really relaxed for a bit.
