Hello everyone! I’ve been a silent lurker on the threads here for awhile, before law school I worked in bridal fashion so I started reading to get an idea of what real brides liked/didn’t like the continued once my boyfriend and I started discussing engagement rings. I found the ring photos/specs on this site so helpful for determining what i wanted in an engagement ring.
Well, my boyfriend and I have discussed getting engaged for about a year and a half, and over Thanksgiving weekend we met with a jeweler and ordered my ring/diamond. We were a bit untraditional in the sense that I helped plan my ring. My boyfriend has wonderful taste but coming from a fashion background I couldn’t let go of the design completely. Now I just have to sit back and wait for the official proposal which we have both decided will be the one element he keeps as a surprise.
Now that I am waiting I am obsessed with engagement rings! I know there are a billion threads on rings, but I would love to see rings from any recently engaged brides and hear your proposal story. Did you help pick out your ring? Or was it a surprise? I love women that help pick and I love the romance of a surprise too, I’d just love to read your sweet stories and see as many gorgeous rings as possible (diamonds/gems/moissonite/etc).
Thanks and I look forward to seeing!

I went to the jewelry store with my Fiance to choose my ring. I had the 6.5mm OEC moissanite and we chose the setting together. I wanted a yellow gold solitaire. He preferred 4 prongs to 6 prongs, so that is what we ordered!
And congrats on the ring purchase!! It was such an exciting and nerve wracking time waiting for the proposal once it was purchased, but I did not yet have it!

I helped pick out my ring. We went shopping together, I picked three I loved, and he made the final choice. He also picked out the center sapphire completely on his own. He proposed on a camping trip while we were sitting around the fire. It was absolutely perfect. And he still managed to surprise me after 7 years together and helping to pick out the ring.

Waiting is so exciting…. I can say that now that I’m no longer waiting. When I was waiting I was getting so antsy!
I did pick out my ring entirely so my ring was not a surprise. My fiancé and I had two very different ideas. He felt that since I had to wear it, it should be what I liked. But we decided on a budget before I even picked what I wanted.
Here she is 🙂

YIPPEE! Congratulations on your soon to be engagement!! Make sure to post pics / proposal story when it happens.
I also helped choose my ring. With my then boyfriend’s blessing, my mother, sister and I went shopping all day to find the perfect ring. Then, we called him into the fold for the last leg of the process. The ring ended up being custom-designed, however, so I never saw the final product until my husband proposed (that was part of the deal) which was nearly 1.5 years later.
Even though I picked out the ring, he surprised me with a proposal the day after my birthday. I should add that I got nothing for that birthday – not even a card – so I was pretty salty the day after. But, when he got down on one knee in front of the lake with my family watching, my saltiness melted away.
Funny enough, the ring was also a surprise since it was over a year later, and since we modified it from the original setting we first saw at the jewelers. No regrets! It may not be the traditional route, but choosing my own ring ensured that I got exactly what I wanted, and my husband was happy because it took the pressure off.
Here’s my beauty from our wedding day. Congrats again!! xoxo

I helped pick out my ring! I chose the setting and told him I wanted a radiant cut. He picked the diamond out himself since he wanted it to be somewhat of a surprise.
He proposed a couple of weeks ago while we were in the Cayman Islands. It was perfect cause we got to celebrate the rest of the week.

I chose my setting on my own, but he was the one who inspired me to try on a square stone. I hadn’t even considered it before we shopped together, but ended up loving the look. He didn’t really have any suggestions other than that and just wanted me to get what I wanted!

I did! We were together 7.5 years and didn’t want to get engaged until then. We knew we wanted to be together forever but life was crazy busy and we didn’t have the time or money to plan a weddding. Woke up one day and said basically I’d like a ring can we get engaged now ? We had just bought our first home together and we’re seriously talking TTC. I picked the ring with his input and a few weeks later he proposed. Sorry, I know it’s going to be a huge picture as I have no idea how to resize. It’s a moissanite! Originally wanted a gemstone but liked the idea of a clear stone that sparkled a lot!

My fiancé and I picked mine together! I brought the side stones because they came from my great-grandmother’s ring (her center stone was sadly lost decades ago). I knew I wanted an emerald cut diamond, and we went to three jewelers in the diamond district in LA looking for the right stone. When we found this one, I loved it, and he asked if it was the one I wanted. I described to the jeweler how I wanted the ring set with my side stones, and he made it. When it was finished, he sent it to me fiancé so I didn’t see it fully made until he proposed! I love it so much. It’s exactly what I wanted 🙂 🙂

- Wedding: October 2019 - Chateau Lake Louise
I’m far too particular to not have input on something I’ll wear for the rest of my life 😅
We originally thought we’d go full custom, but I got cold feet about buying something I’d never seen in person. Just tooling around the internet, I came across a setting I loved so we bought that. Then we got a 1.92 princess cut F1 moissanite and had it kite set.
Here’s the finished product:
I had to wait about 4 months total from when we bought the setting to proposal, then there were issues with the way the stone was set (IT FELL OUT) So I didn’t get to start wearing it full time until mid-october. Waiting was super hard, but now I get to look at it every day and couldn’t be happier.

I knew exactly the ring I wanted so I showed Fiance in the jewellery store to see if he liked it too and if he was ok with the price. He liked it too and bought it not long after, though not while I was there.

I picked out my setting and diamond, but me and my Fiance were on the same page. He actually felt relieved of the stress of picking out exactly what I wanted since it is such a big purchase. And I wouldn’t change a thing about how we did it! I was like you and sat back and let him plan the proposal however he wanted.

He proposed without a ring. We were sitting on the couch on a cold Sunday afternoon last January. He was surffing the net and I was reading a book. We’d been sitting in silence for about an hour when I put the book down for a minute. I looked over at him and said “i love you, big guy” (my nickname for him, he’s 6’5″) He turned and looked at me and said “you are the most truly good person I know and I can’t imagine my life without you. Will you marry me?” Of course I said yes! Then he said, I guess I need to get you a ring, and I said hell yes you do!
We started ring shopping the next day. It took about a month of shopping and research to find the one. There was never any question that I would be involved with picking the ring. He set the budget and provided his opinion, but he wanted me to love it so really all the details of stone shape and setting were up to me.
I couldn’t be happier with it, it’s perfect! I know lots of bees have bigger, more elaborate, more expensive rings. But this is MY ring and it is exactly what I wanted.
