He asked what I wanted, for him to pick or for me. I asked for input, but his ultimate decision. I thought what I wanted was simple, since I wanted a round center stone. We started looking at settings and different kinds of center gemstones. He knew I didn’t want pave or stones going down the side, because I have sensitive skin. We narrowed it down to a solitaire or side stone. I knew he was also looking at pre-owned rings. I was still sending him potential options right until the day he proposed. He had bought the ring from James Allen a month earlier and kept the charade to surprise me.

with my first husband we both picked out the diamond and designed the ring together.
Been divorced 6yrs and with boyfriend for 4yrs. For the last couple years I was certain that I wanted a cushion cut diamond with a halo, mostly due to price. My first ring was .71ct and I wanted to go a lot bigger and figured with the price of diamonds the halo would make it look bigger. Then discovered moissanite and decided that would be a much better option as I’ll be 44 saturday, with a 12 & 15yo, so lots of expenses coming up like needing another car soon, high insurance costs, college in a few years, and really want a kitchen remodel. So since I could get a bigger center stone for not an insane amount of money I changed what I wanted and didn’t want a halo anymore. We picked this ring out together, he ordered it but doesn’t have it yet. No clue when he’ll propose. I got a 9mm cushion cut (so about 3.5ct) in white gold. Kind of wishing I’d just got a solitaire band now but hopefully it’ll be fine. I’m way too picky and a control freak to have someone else pick out a ring and surprise me. I don’t even like it when people buy me clothes, and this is something I’ll be wearing daily for many years…needed to have a say in it.

My fiance knew that I would want to pick my own ring, but he wanted to surprise me with the proposal, so he actually bought a $25 “placeholder ring”.
We’re going shopping next weekend to pick out the “real” one, but I will always cherish the one he proposed with
